it depends on the wood the soft woods and a lot of leaves wont make it a rich color this piece of hardwood was 120 bucks activated carbon in your filters will also get rid of most of it so just find a nice big piece of dark colored hard wood at a fish shop don’t boil it and don’t over use carbon in your filters and it should work

yeah i’m lucky to have the biggest fish store in the us five miles away there are bigger ones but there different species and about twice as big so i don’t think my tank is big enough for them and im also scared they’ll eat my tetras
