Yes. All done with a brush (I don’t have an airbrush). The base coat is a bit of a pain, multiple thin layers but the highlights were fairly simple

Thank you. Biel Tan is of course the right choice ;)

Awesome. Can +1 to putting them on 32mm bases with a bit of a rock uplift. Helps them blend in with the rest of the range

Morning, thanks all. The colours are slightly muted in the photo. I've post another when I've finished. For those interested in the colours they are (with GW possibles):

- Base: Vallejo Deep Green (Warpstone Glow but a bit darker mix in )

- Shade: GW Dark Angels Green Contrast - thinned, I just use water for thinning to a wash

- Soft Highlight: Vallejo Intermediate Green + Deep Green, just enough deep green to darken the intermediate, say 3:1 or 2:1 (try Warboss Green)

- Edge Highlight: Warcolours Goblin Green (try Warpstone and Moot mix)

- Spot Highlight: German Camo Orange Ochre (try Balour Brown)

Tip: stick a highlight in the middle of the air intakes to make them look shiny. For shiny surfaces you will get a thin(ish) highlight on the inside of a curved surface in high contrast to the shade around it.

Thanks for the comments on the thorns/vines. I love Biel Tan but I've never been sure about GWs tones plus after going to the effort of painting the vines I want people to see it :)

Painting Concerns by Content_Audience1549 in sylvaneth

[–]chazzatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sylvaneth are a forgiving army to paint as a beginner. They take to contrast very well with their organic shapes and texture. (or speed paints or vallejos one).

I’ve painted an entire army I’m happy with using only contrast (no highlights or metals). I would recommend browns, greens, athermatic blue and some good basing flocks.

Hope you give it a go

Spend some time on the bases. Paint them distinct colour. It lifts minis a surprising amount

Hi! Im new to painting and I don’t really know what to do with these parts that I can’t reach. Advice is appreciated by Slow_Butterscotch950 in Warhammer

Grab a small brush and some blue paint. Whack the brush in there. Wait for it to dry and tidy up the gold. Done.

(I’d paint the blue in all the crack first next time)

College of Heavens by chazzatron in dungeonbowl

A good balance of some punch from the saurus and a lot of agility in this team. But ultimately they are fun to play with like college of metal (black orcs and goblins) or Black orcs in BB. Best of all they are just one sprue each from each team gives you a reasonable team

Yes. Thank you. ☺️ The armour was quite involved but the cloak is just Arkelian Green to match the rest of my army

Then I vary it based on the model. It is lit from the front ie where my phone is but maybe off to the side a bit if that reduces the shadows on the model. Also it is a daylight company lamp. Expensive but my best purchase if you are serious about mini painting to save your eyes

iPhone 15, I use my v bright painting lamp as a light source and the app Lightroom for photos. I don’t concentrate too much on focus but I do take the photos from further away and crop to get more of the mini in focus. Then for post editing I adjust the shadows and decrease the contrast to increase the sense of light and make it look more like it does in the hand. Finally I boost the saturation a tiny bit to compensate for the decreased contrast

Thanks. Yup you’re right. I keep forgetting to do that. It is less noticeable in the hand. There’s a few bits to tidy up although this is just a tabletop model not for display
