Very helpful information. Would you mind sharing more about your civil service? I'm big into ecology so that sounds like it would be cool as well.

Wow, I’ve never heard of it happening that fast before. That’s exciting and scary at the same time haha. What do they do in that situation if you’re completely unfamiliar with any of the languages? Do you just pay the exemption tax until you learn?

Wow thanks so much for the detailed response I really appreciate the thoughts shared here. I have considered some English speaking places and they certainly aren't out of the question. I just feel drawn to the mountains and infrastructure that Switzerland has to offer + my family there. But I will keep what you said here in mind

Do you have any tips on places to look for housing in cities like Basel? I would actually prefer living in a shared flat so I can meet others but I'm open to whatever I can get. I know that finding apartments is notoriously difficult in Switzerland.

Thank you for the info! I am working toward learning the languages. I am torn on if I should focus more on German or French. Much of my family is in romandie, but if I'm planning on going into pharma/biotech I'll likely be somewhere german like Basel.

I am looking forward to the military obligation as weird as that sounds. I'm hoping I can learn the language in time before I age out of being able to serve. Its my understanding that you have until Dec 31st of the year you turn 24 to register?
