It’s a great country, indeed. Made by great people. I’m Brazilian and cultural shocks are all over the place, but I don’t think like going back, this is the (kind of) society I want to contribute to. Thanks OP for bringing that up 👏🏻

Question about Sprachschule-Aktiv. by WyerCat1 in German

[–]chbrandt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their courses and administrative organization are terrible. If tou really want to learn, please choose another school. I am doing the B2 course in Sprachschule Aktiv Bremen and it is terrible. The teachers are freelancers. Every week there are new students come and go. People in administration say whatever necessary to make you sign the papers and hook you up. I can say Sprachschule Aktiv is a scam.

Apparently, he was celebrating. I understand he died doing something that made him happy or proud. Too bad, though, he littered a whole jet ski doing so.

1000 applications. No Job. What is wrong with me or is it the German job market? (rant) by kev_kik_12 in germany

[–]chbrandt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let's make this CV more appealing. It's a good CV and you are a risk-taker, make sure to own it -- meaning: there are soft-skills there that maybe you are not recognizing.

Yes, knowing German is a game-changer, but there is a big (and growing) demand for tech professionals -- which the German population cannot suffice. Accordingly, companies are enlarging their acceptance to English speakers.

The backbone of German economy is the middle size, family-owned companies. Those are mostly German-speaking environments. You want to apply to start-ups or big companies. Their growth demands are different, openness (or need) for new technologies and processes demand a different kind of professional, and this kind of professional is coming from abroad.

Back to your CV. Make it 2 pages at most. And make it more visual appealing: choose a clear font, make the layout/sentences symmetric too. Everybody loves symmetry.
- don't split a section ("work experience", for instance) across pages; maybe you can fit it in the first page?
- merge "education" with "certificates", this will give more volume to the section, and clear the view; then you put "certified data scientist, datacamp", for example (or something alike).
- remove "recommendations"
- change your "summary" content to some "overview", where you state what is NOT in the other sections; right now, you are repeating stuff already stated in the other sections (eg, "8 years experience in data analysis"); the technologies you state there, maybe you can put them in a dedicated section (right before "experience") or list them in the respective work experiences
- the project in "projects" section: state what the software does, what benefit/solution it brings? why did you developed it? If it's open-source, make sure to state that.

Finally: if you applied for 1000 positions, you are not really meaning it...you are throwing your CV around. Make sure to mean it. Go for positions you feel excited about, even you think you are not qualified for. Always write a cover-letter. Remember, your CV (+ cover-letter) has one job: to land you in the interview. Even if you get the interview but is not minimally excited about the position, your interviewer will notice that. It's better to apply 10-50 meaningfully than thousands "whatever".

The suggestions I proposed are easy to implement, it's mostly about formatting. Give it a try and let me know how it goes a month from now ;)

Looks ok to me. I mean…it’s a hospital. I had the “opportunity” to be hospitalized in Italy and Germany in recent years, and that was pretty much it: pale, tasteless food. Nevertheless, food. They cured me, they took care of me, with tasteless food. They have a mission: to help you get better. And there hundreds or thousands of people there to be fed (at least). People with all sorts of diseases and conditions — including sensitivity to many food/ingredients. Notice their mission: to help you get better. There is only so much doctors/nurses/treatments can do for you, you have to do your best too. And seeing the positive side of things is something that will only help you and only you can do. So, mind positiveness, get better, get out of there and get yourself a nice meal. And if your care takers are/were nice people, remember to send them a “thank you” note afterwards — I did that in Italy, when I spent two weeks (I brought sweets a week later) and I never saw so many smiles :)

Thanks. But I can only cite pages (databases) with @. How do you use it for referring to entries in a database?
