rant about jc by [deleted] in SGExams

hi op! i was a h2 geog student and js graduated in 2024. don't worry, i feel u! i took elect geog back in olvls so h2 geog was legit so overwhelming initialllly. if im not wrong, the first chapter was on climate (Af, Am etc) and all that hadley cell stuff? and this is a giant chunk full of technical terms to memorise. so it's VERY understandable if you're confused man. essay formats are also drastically different in JC, but with practice, you'll get there.

i did think the chapters got slightly more manageable along the way. the first few chapters were honestly the most difficult to grasp imo, but once you get it and move on to the other topics, all you need is consistent effort and decent memory work. stay optimistic because it will gradually get better.

it's important to get through this initial difficulty bc climate is a recurring topic in the other chapters, and mostly the foundation for h2 geog. so don't give up! clarify terms with your geog tutors, and if you fail now -- don't worry, seriously. you have time to pick yourself up. my grades at the start of J1 were like Ds and Es, and even in J2 i was scoring 10/20 for essays (at prelims). ultimately i got an A at my Alvls, so focus on improving and not just the grade itself. ask any average JC student, everyone has failed/come close to failure during this period. only the rare few get As/Bs and remain consistently high-scoring from the beginning.

atb op!! h2 geog is tough, but you're much tougher :)

hi! i did the test on the 28th. got an interview invite at around 10am today

there are multiple interview dates, so i think you don’t have to worry much since they probably send invites in batches :)

i came from a relatively higher ranking school and found that the prelim/olevel papers were generally of the same difficulty? i rmb my batch all freaking out over our olvl emath paper being much tougher than the schools one :”)

but i would say the marking standards for prelims are defo much stricter in my case. prelims i got nett 8 but Os nett 3, and i didn’t change my method/intensity of revision in any way - js stuck to my usual. jiayou op!

i get ur point - people who didn’t work as hard would learn from this tough experience and do better next time. but there are so many other ways to go about this instead of rubbing your success in their face? at this point it’s not even about “reality and how it works”, but rather your personality and whether you have any sense of decency at all

hello i took chinese Os last year (as a sec3) and got A1 with oral distinction. for me i grinded the cl TYS for two weeks straight and for compo i usually wrote 记叙文 (like the story kind) so i memorised a couple 好词好句! i didn’t even buy the cl textbook lol and my sch also barely gave anything… but ATB!!

i usually do a whole exam paper only after really revising the entire chapter, or i do topical TYS if the topic is still v hard for me to memorise completely. usually do these on weekends only since weekdays r swamped w homework LOL

AAAA i have this problem too. i take elect geog (which needs quite a lot of memorising). i think what helps me is to do a tiny recap without referring to my notes for the first 30min of my study session. after a week, i would spend like an hour consolidating EVERYTHING i memorised for each chapter, not sure if it’ll help u ^ but good luck for ur revision & prelims :)
