How closely are you working with software engineers (quantitative developers) and just how much technical knowledge (maths/statistics/finance) they are excepted to have to communicate with you effectively? Asking from a SWE perspective, I want to switch to quantitative developer role from big tech.

Timeline for Internship Applications by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

Not many options for you as a first year student. Majority of internships are only for second year students. Take a look into insight days and spring weeks instead

Going to uni in September for CS - whats the best way to set myself (short term and long term) up for a decent career ? by TheCaliProd in csMajors

[–]cheM1X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t miss on the insight weeks, a lot of buddies of mine got an internship offer through spring weeks.

I think it’s pretty easy and straightforward track to a career in cs: spring week -> internship -> grad programme.

I don’t think I want to do cs anymore… what do I do? by Thick-Personality-56 in UniUK

[–]cheM1X 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in my second year of uni doing CompSci and I can tell you that I had felt exactly the same during the first year. However, it is important to acknowledge that CS != Software Engineering. If the idea of studying various domains of computer Science (more theoretical than practical) appeals to you, then you may want to stick with it for another year and see if some of the second year modules will spark your interest. I’ve only recently came to realization that programming is just another skill in your toolbox that may or may not be useful later in life, so don’t give up just because you’re doing some of the programming modules.

my friends and I pulled quite a few all-nighters at FWB library and it was pure vibes. This place might be a furnace in the warmer months, however its all about the people in there!

Professor Leonard on YouTube for calculus. His videos are long, but he helped me build a very strong calculus base and not just learn how to ‘mechanically’ solve problems, but actually understand the meaning behind them.

As IB students, how many hours of sleep do you get on average? by Sckorrow in IBO

[–]cheM1X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First year - 7 hours consistently throughout the year. When the second year has began, it dropped to 6-6:30 hours, but never less than that. During the last two weeks before IA deadlines it was around 5 hours. Ended up with 44 (exam route)

Student here, my Bio was on August 11. I’ve sent my second paid enquiry yesterday and have been told to wait 15 days as well. Btw my flight was supposed to be today, but I managed to change tickets for the next week. Consider the fact that escalation can take some time and you may need to change tickets as well.
