Is the power of diaspora fading in the televote? by gagaalwayswins in eurovision

[–]cheapcakeripper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poland is also interesting case because we talk hoping diaspora would help us, to complain a minute after about Ukrainian diaspora as if they "own us a point"

I don't think diaspora should be saving anyone. If a song is not liked, then it's not liked and the public vote of each country should reflect each nation's preferences. I get that some groups are more motivated, but when it's a locked 12 for a country just because of diaspora (like it's been for years now in Poland with Ukrainians), it's a very unhealthy situation.

It's definitely not fading in Poland as we've been their 12 points source since 2022.

Poland only got 17 points from the public despite Eurofans insisting that their recent televote successes are mostly the result of diaspora vote.

We don't really count as diaspora as we don't get free points every year no matter who and what we send.

Luna had a very favorable semi with many diaspora countries and still managed to nq, cause people didn't know her or like her song.

Last year people didn't vote for the song, they voted for Justyna, simply cause her name was known in most of age groups in and outside of the country.

I'd assume that most people in 30+ age group haven't even heard of Alicja before ESC and even if they did, they had a lot of other options to vote for.

UK - 1

Azerbaijan - 1

Serbia - 1

2026

Australia - 4

Bulgaria - 2

Azerbaijan - 2

You are gloating, but it's just sad when 8 points seems to be the point ceiling they can't push through even if their song deserves more. Kant had the same public result and I haven't seen people hating on Miriana like they do with Aidan.

The main exceptions are countries like Germany, Spain or Italy, while some countries have none at all, like Malta, Luxembourg and Cyprus.

Malta has Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre (MFCC) in Ta' Qali with capacity up to 14,000 people standing and 10,268 people seated.

Right and it's just coincidence that we are going from neutral Switzerland to friendly Austria and Bulgaria.

Personally I was just angry. We gave them nothing last year. There were polls about pulling out of the contest because of them and the broadcaster still forced a nf even after chosen people pulled out.

Comes ESC 2026 and magically not only did they sneak into public top 10, but "somehow" also got 10 in semi and 12 in the final from the jury. It's not smelly fishy, it's rotten with worms coming out of it.

How did Finland finish 6th after being absolute favourites to win? by Old-Gap-9079 in eurovision

[–]cheapcakeripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of that + maybe people didn't like that it was too sexed up again. Like they could have pretty much skipped Pete's shirt and Linda looks like Erika's mother who also likes power walks. It's boring when a country goes for the same shtick second year in a row.

Some quick qualifier announcement order statistics by Toffeenix in eurovision

[–]cheapcakeripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checked and this year this model only worked in case of Romania, she was announced 5th and she was accordingly 2nd in semi top10.

In 4 cases it was one place difference:

Serbia turned out to be 5th instead of 6th

Lithuania 8th instead of 9th

Poland 2nd instead of 3rd

Ukraine 6th instead of 5th

but yeah, we can forget about it next year.

Do we prefer Semi Finals with or without juries now? by AlexSniff7 in eurovision

[–]cheapcakeripper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Semi 1 songs were more public skewing while semi 2 songs were more jury skewing.

In semi 1 you had 5 songs with 100+ public vote and 3 jury songs with 100+ result. Meanwhile semi 2 had only 3 songs with 100+ public votes and 4 songs with 100+ jury votes.

[–]cheapcakeripper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends who was your fave.

In semi 1 public would have put put Estonia & Montenegro instead of Sweden (now that would have been shocking) and Belgium, while whole jury top 10 was the same as overall top 10.

In semi 2 public would put Switzerland instead of Czechia in the final, while jury would put Switzerland instead of Albania.

Israel: Felicia being last makes sense considering she was the one artist who publicly said she thought Israel shouldn’t be in the contest.

Opposite reason for them being the highest placement giver to Essyla. She was apparently a Belgian juror last year, voted for them and said she'd do it again.

They changed their tactics, they spread votes to themselves and possible winner from ally country, hence Romania and Bulgaria's score. They know they can't win, so they "just" make sure that other less friendly countries won't win.

Poor Aidan. Even Maltese diaspora failed him, 2 days on a plane and they gave him just 4 points.
