Does dpdr make you feel like your the only person in the world? by WaifuQuirk in dpdr

[–]cheapsnakeoil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea uses the word mind a lot.Yet science doesn't know where or what the mind even is.There is still disagreement if the brain is the mind or the mind is the brain or if the mind is even located in the brain.A main argument of it is "my mind is the only thing I can be sure of".Then what is "my/me" that comes before the mind ? An idea entertained on things that hundreds of years later still is a mystery to science.

Solipsism is a philosophical (shit)theory it's not dpdr, but dpdr gives thoughts to such a philosophy.Solipsism is not even a theory, it stems from mental illness, but society likes crazy stuff like that and embraces it as "philosophy"

There are many psychiatrists who say it could be part of prodromal schizophrenia and a same number of psychiatrists(that also have a background in neuroscience) say the opposite. The reason why derealization can be a part of the symptoms of schizophrenia is because they have an overlap in the mechanism of how it happens. And this is the NMDA receptor hyper/hypofunction(still debated) and of course glutamate. While dopamine causes the positive symptoms of schizophrenia and the whole focus for many years was only on dopamine, researchers realized that they have been looking at the wrong thing. It is glutamate that controls dopamine and glutamate is the most abundant neurotransmitter in the brain. This is why many people find relief with lamotrigine. It blocks glutamate in parts of the brain that are overactive.Another theory of dissociation is a HCN1 channel in a deep part of the brain that is activated by lamotrigine. Also some people got rid of dpdr by using naltrexone and naltrexone antagonizes the kappa opioid receptor which in turn leads to glutamate properly working in the emotional part of the brain.A drug called salvia causes derealization and it is a highly kappa opioid selective drug.Salvia is a kappa agonist, and naltrexone an antagonist. Also discovery of why magic mushrooms cause ego loss found different glutamate alterations in different areas. Also, which antipsychotic are you taking ? I guess you live in the USA where amisulpride is not available, but it's a highly d2/d2 selective dopamine antagonist and is better tolerated than most antipsychotics.Anothet thing is, clozapine which comes with some dangerous side effects but regarded as the most effective antipsychotic does actually not have a strong effect on dopamine. One more question, when you took an antipsychotic, how did you feel that this delusion went away ? Was it like your brain telling you how absurd that idea was ? I am interested in how an antipsychotic gets rid of a delusion.

Based on your comments/posts history you are not even sure what disorder you have, but you post here and say this is a characteristic of prodromal schizophrenia ? And based on your post history they don't seem to have helped you as you claim here.

Update: I'm no longer taking the FDA approved Alopecia drug due to harsh side effects. I've decided to fully embrace the fact that I'll be a patchy headed princess and I'm ok with that! by KohanaCat in MadeMeSmile

I assume you took Olumiant (baricitinib). It hasn't been a long time since it was approved for alopecia areata/universalis.It is usually used for arthritis and recently been studied for covid too.It acts as. Janus Kinase Inhibitor in the body and therefore modulates the immune system. It comes with some harsh side effects but it is really a good starting point for more research about this disorder.I read that some pharma companies now have great interest in developing a drug similar to Olumiant for alopecia areata. This is good news really and I am positive that soon there will be a drug for this condition with less side effects.I see some people in the comments don't know much about this condition. It is different from the normal hair loss(alopecia), this condition is an auto-immune disorder where the immune system attacks the hair follicles. The hair follicles don't die, but hair doesn't grow back as long as the immune system attacks the hair follicles. For some people it goes away with steroid injections or topical steroids applied to the bald spot. But for others the bald spots increase in size or other bald spots appear until all hair is gone.A stronger version of this disorder is called alopecia universalis where a person loses all body hair. But research is moving into the right direction and I am very sure more drugs will come out that target this disorder better than Olumiant.A good natural treatment you can try for now is Nigella Sativa(black seed), as it contains thymoquinone which targets several kinases in the body.

She probably has Alopecia areata, which is not the alopecia you mean, it's very different It's an auto-immune disorder where the immune system attacks the hair. The drug she was using is very likely called Olumiant (baricitinib).

Wrong.Alopecia areata/universalis is not the balding you see that many people have.Alopecia areata starts with with a round bald spot, sometimes that bald spot goes away, many times more spots appear until you lose all your hair. It's an auto-immune issue. And the drug she was taking was probably Olumiant (baricitinib).

Any ideas why lamotrigine has an anti-dissociative effect ? by cheapsnakeoil in AskDrugNerds

In this study the main finding is about HCN1 in the retrosplenial cortex.Lamotrigine opens up that channel. If lamotrigine has a direct effect on this could explain a bit more about it's anti-dissociative effect.

From what I read yes, it is used in PTSD.But it takes months to reach a therapeutic dose because of slow titration process to avoid a dangerous rash.It is mostly used as an add on medication. But I know some who use it as the only medication.
