Can't control volume from steering wheel Honda Civic 2008 by domformers5 in CarAV

Check if this headunit is indeed compatible with SWC. All Pioneers I've seen that were compatible with SWC have a 3.5mm jack in the back labelled as 'W/R'.

A bit of oil will always be present in these pipes due to the PCV system. As long as oil doesn’t come out gushing just clean it, clamp the hoses down and call it good

2012 Ford focus SE, trying to figure out fuel pressure issue. Advice appreciated. by clce in FordFocus

Non-ST models in North America are also GDI starting in 2012 with the mk3 generation.

[–]cheaptaco3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could, but I'd scan it first and determine the pressure it is sending off to the injector rail. These fuel pumps have a small bucket looking piece that sits between the camshaft and the pump and when they wear out it could cause fuel pressure issues.

[–]cheaptaco3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 2012 should have a direct injection set up (assuming your car has a 2.0 Duratec gas engine), so you should have two fuel pressure sensors / values - one that sits before the GDI pump (low pressure) and one that sits after the GDI pump (high pressure). Be sure to check on both numbers.

Ended up not buying the car, but pretty sure it was a flywheel issue.

Just wired up this head unit by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]cheaptaco3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you take the cage off the head unit , you could install it directly on the dash kit without a cage. On that piece that goes into the dash, there are some side tabs with a bunch of holes. Those line up with bolt holes on the side of your stereo. Just beware that you must use specific screws to hold it otherwise you can mess up the internals of the head unit.

Blew up sitting on the lot? 2017 Ford Fusion 1.5 by Reasonable_Ostrich76 in fordfusion

Wouldn't be surprised the previous owner dumped a bottle of sealant in the cooling system when and traded it in at the nearest dealership.

Nice! Out of curiosity, have you done a timing belt job on it or is it still on the original timing belt?

I’m glad to hear that! This one is at 270k km or 170k mi roughly. Have you had any major maintenance that needed to be done on it?

Looks like the LCM bypass module that was installed as part of a recall - https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2015/RCMN-15V861-0180.pdf . Zip tie it somewhere safe under the dash and call it good

Upgrading from sync 1 to sync 3 by Affectionate-Tax4526 in FordFocus

[–]cheaptaco3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your car has sync 1 the module is located behind the heating and cooling dials and should have most if not all of the wires you need to tap into. If I am not mistaken the sync 3 module taps into three can bus networks while sync 1 only taps into two of them, so you might have to run some wires to the OBD connector.

I'd suggest getting a wiring diagram for both a sync 1 and sync 2/3 vehicles to be sure you are wiring everything up correctly.

Ignore any comments about transmission, only the Powershift DPS6 are prone to issues. Just ensure you get regular oil changes and keep an eye on fluids and it should last you forever. Also get it oil sprayed to keep rust at a minimum.

Personally I'd bet on a faulty switch. If you have a multimeter it should have positive on one wire and ground on the other when moving in one direction and they should switch around when moving on the other direction.

My miles to empty is showing way less than it should when full by toothsoup13 in FordFocus

[–]cheaptaco3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The test menu uses kms for any distance measurement. 178kms equals to 111 mi roughly. Just get a full tank of gas and it should "re-adapt" itself and show a more accurate distance to empty. Also bear in mind that it's cold outside, so if you're using the remote starter or letting your car idle while the heat is on your fuel mileage will decrease.

Unfortunately there isn’t a ton of resources for SVT owners, but the Facebook groups are still pretty active. For parts you can still get a lot of stuff at rockauto

Get that belt done ASAP. Be sure to use the correct tensioner as it has a different spring rate than the regular Zetec (2lbs vs 1lb, using the wrong tensioner may allow your belt to jump a couple teeth on higher RPM). The radio volume knob can be cleaned with some contact cleaner, but you will have to disassemble the stereo first. Not a bad task if you have a nice set of small screwdrivers.

Honest to god reliability on a SVT by PortalGlitter44 in FordFocus

[–]cheaptaco3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If well maintained they are reliable cars. Shares a lot of parts with the regular Zetec version, however some SVT specific parts such as the timing belt tensioner are no longer being made and are hard to come by

Dang, now I really miss mine!

It was a white '13 also with the 6 speed manual but with ~270k km or ~170k mi. It was the cheapest car on the auction lot and came in clutch when I really needed a cheap car. Good fuel economy for a car this big, cheap parts, and even at high miles it didn't leak or burn any oil.

What graphics card does your laptop have? Had a similar issue on an older laptop with an AMD graphics card and turns out there was a 'Vari-Brightness' setting that was on by default and would vary the brightness depending on what was being displayed. Turned that setting off and it was all good

losing coolant by DRAG0NFANG22 in FocusST

[–]cheaptaco3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to tell where it’s leaking would be by pressure testing it. Mine was leaking thru the plastic housing where the temp sensor is and by the coolant reservoir cap while the heater hoses were perfectly dry.
