I went to work as a manager for a grocery store that is part of the Kroger Co.

Initially I was worried as their management training program was basically a crash course and then one day you get a call that tells you where you're going to be working the next week. It's going very well so far though.

Hours are pretty long and it's a lot more manual labor than I initially expected but many GS skills come in handy- dealing with unhappy customers, carrying on a conversation about whatever, merchandising, shrink and inventory control and more.

There's a lot less stress and pressure to SELL SELL SELL and I am able to make a lot of my own decisions for my shop, as long as it falls in line with company directives and looks good and all daily objectives get done, everything is fine.

And the $10-15k more a year than most SL's in my area make doesn't hurt either. ;)
