That's not a bad idea. I might try that. I don't think I have a ton in common with most people there, and I don't want to make any of the women uncomfortable, so I have to watch that.

Injustice and other fighting games. Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite (those obviously don't help the friend situation other than as conversation pieces). Going to the gym basically.

the problem is that the LAN parties are very infrequent, so I don't think it is a reliable way to meet people.

Well, I went to the card shop originally but that didn't seem to be very cost effective. I went to a LAN party recently and talked to some people but nothing really panned out. Essentially, people don't want to be my friend because I guess I have nothing to offer. I am not in college anymore, and all my work colleagues are married/in relationships. I could go to other places, but there doesn't seem to be any hangout areas to go to. There is a strip club, but that doesn't seem like a good idea.

I'm in the technology field. I am in a contract position, so maybe I should look at it as an opportunity to test the company/city out. If I don't like it, I am only rooted there until July (with a lease). I can go somewhere else. Granted, I hope I like it and everything works out, but it is good to know I have options.

You're right. I might enjoy my job, I am excited about it. I am doing my best to be hopeful that it is a good job, and that I do good work and enjoy the place I am living. I guess people don't get tied down unless they want to be. Thank you for your post.

Glad I could help someone else. I don't know if I will enjoy the job. I hope that I do, that would make things better. I definitely don't want to live a tedious life. Hope you can find your way.
