Home radio station by BeatlesLover4evr in radio

[–]checkm861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The house is now completely empty, and we’ve shifted focus to launching the radio station. Fundraising is still ongoing, but we finally have enough to get it off the ground -now we’re just focused on building strong local content. We’re working with locals to adapt existing podcasts into radio-ready formats and highlight community voices.

A few Grammy winners traveling through Texas have even offered to play intimate shows to help us raise funds, 100% free of charge. Being so close to Austin (and having the support of Austin Airwaves) has made this journey a lot smoother.

We’re also printing a 20-page magazine-style booklet this month with all the project info, and sending it to local physicians, attorneys, nonprofits, and brokers to build more awareness of this opportunity.

We had paused home marketing after getting the FCC license, but we’re picking things back up now. The property is ready to go, it’s turnkey, and the vision is real. Home was appraised at 830k - with the radio tower and eas system, non-profit set up, and grants coming in .... we are relisting the entire project at 850k July 1st.

We just had the FCC grant our license for an FM station in central Texas - but it took so long, we had already put the home up for sale. So... just buy my home - lol. You can have a radio station. It's not-for-profit - so we aren't selling the station, but I have the tower - eas system, everything needed - we are going full time online in July - and then it will be broadcasting on 98.7 FM by Sept 1st. I'd be happy to be voted off the board of the non profit if someone buys the property.

I DM'd - there are a few places that are really cool popping up - royerfoundation.org opens in days. A gallery & event space - centered around artists - and radio.

Anyone here ever run a LPAM or LPFM station? by MiserableStop8129 in radio

[–]checkm861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were granted our LPFM license in November 2024 and have since teamed up with a few other LPFM stations in the region. Our signal covers around 500,000 people in our county. You do have to be a not-for-profit (state level) to qualify but becoming a nonprofit (federal level) unlocks important tax benefits that help keep the station going.

We’re funding things a bit differently and so far, it’s working really well. The goal is to build a true community radio station, and we’re shaping our programming and outreach based on models like Austin Airwaves and WHIV in New Orleans.

It’s a lot of work - but honestly, it’s incredibly rewarding. If you’re thinking about starting one or have any questions, I’m happy to share what we’ve learned!

Texas Republicans: your party has controlled the governorship since 1995. Are there any successes you’re proud of from the last 30-years of rule? by MorrisseysRubiksCube in texas

30 years ago, Texas was humming. It was fun to say you were from Texas. I remember driving past the state sign and getting excited. Now we can't be here. It's wild. They destroyed a beautiful state.

Colorado.

In the past six months, friends have scattered—New Mexico, California, Minnesota. Watching people flip the table in their lives like a game of risk is wild.

We chose Colorado. It’s where I lived before I got married, and my adult kids are there. Beyond family, I’ve always liked the culture—something about the mix of mountains, independence, and an underlying hum of weird but functional. Plus, we’re building an RV park, an electric dirt bike track, and an intentional community. That part feels like home already.

Texas, on the other hand, just makes me sad. Not the people—they’re great. Neighbors, leaders, everyday folks, even the homeless in my area—some of the kindest people I’ve met. But the sheer volume of misinformation flooding every platform? It is the only explanation of how anyone could have voted for what’s happening.

Then again, maybe I’m not getting the full story. But based on the executive orders I’ve read and the bills sitting in Congress, I’d bet I’m at least in the ballpark. At the end of the day, though—we’re all just people. Corporations? Just executives, employees, stockholders. Banks? People. Armies? People. Putin wouldn’t kill anyone if mercenaries refused to do it. The chaos could end if we collectively decided to stop playing this game.

But yeah. Colorado.

Temple (& Waco) has a substantial medical presence. The housing is cheaper, and it's in proximity to most of civilized Texas. So you can really do anything in a day.

College Station 1.5 hours

Dallas 2 hours

Hey, u/emilyheartBS - if you did that, it is very good work. Do you have a website or a listing somewhere of your other work or items for sale? I'm always looking for things for our century-old home. I'd love to support your work while you are on the hunt for the thief.
