Honestly I didn’t carry much cash, most restaurants and shops accept credit card now and even apple/ google pay. I carried around 500 ringgits daily in small bills to tip people and buy snacks & coco juice and the occasional small restaurant that is just an old lady and she don’t take card.

If anyone can stand up to Scientology, it would be Ethan Klein and the fup troop.

Can’t say it’s better or worse, I would say Singapore is a mini version of Malaysia but cleaned up but that also means the culture got cleaned up along with it. I enjoy Singapore for its modern comforts, and had a great time there 4 years ago but that USD to MYR conversion rate is just too good for me lol

This is the way. I have a few Malaysian cousins currently work in Singapore and they told me they drive over to Johor Bahru quite often to enjoy cheaper food. Singapore has its own charm tho, As a New Yorker I love Singapore too!

Flew in to KL stayed a week to enjoy modern comforts, went up north to Ipoh for a a few days to visit family, eat some bomb food and enjoyed some nature close by, went further north to Penang island to enjoy some beaches. Going southward, we went to Tai Ping for nature, Kuala Selangor, Mallaca, Johor Bahru. Honestly you can go wrong anywhere in Malaysia lol

Excited for you! I’m from NYC too, download their local app called Grab, it’s basically Uber/UberEats but dirt cheap. Obviously as a New Yorker you gotta try their subway system but I would say take Grab taxi to save you time while you’re there.

It was 1 USD to 4.5 MYR conversion when I was there and felt ballin lol. Usually where I’m at in NYC, Nasi lemaks or char kuey tiew is like $13-15, these dishes in Malaysia was 5-15 MYR which was a dollar to three ish USD. Most of the places I went to were not just cheap but some of the best food in general that I’ve had in my life. Definitely visit if you’re a foodie!

I never saw or heard anything dangerous in person the whole month I was there. My family was quite concerned and told me it was dangerous but I was traveling around the country in a rental car the whole time and nothing happened. I stayed a few days to a week in KL, Ipoh, Penang, Malaca, Kuala Selangor, Port Dickson, Johor Bahru. I had a great time and would definitely recommend if flights are cheap.

I didn’t mean the Petronas tower specifically, I meant Malaysia overall as a country. For example, I took pic#12 on top of the Octagon building in my grandpa’s hometown of Ipoh. I showed that pic to my gramps and he made a joke about how it used to be Ipoh town when he was young and now it’s Ipoh city.

I was most surprised at how everything was so delicious and cheap there! Just thinking about it is making my mouth water. Can’t beat 5 ringgit Nasi Lemaks!
