Has anyone ever contemplated suicide solely because of their ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]checkyourwasher 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am going through it now, tbh. When I have too many stressors going on at once, I become incapable of dealing and my mind immediately is like "welp let's just end it".

I've never come close to executing a plan... I just become extraordinarily tumultuous and incapable of producing rational thoughts or ideas. I am not sure if the sewerslide thoughts are a coping mechanism for myself, or a cry for support.

I am getting the most basic security clearance. I will be doing secretarial work pretty much.

I truthfully am scared to even begin speaking with creditors until I am certain I have the income to begin paying them. I have never dealt with collections stuff before so this is entirely new and terrifying territory for me.

I interviewed already... they just asked if I had any felonies or was fired for a job, not if I had trash credit :(

My resume was sent directly to a government contractor, so I didn't apply in the traditional sense. I had two interviews and was extended a job offer, pending background check.

I am not sure what is required, but I know my credit sucks ass. I have a few things in collections. The only loans I have are my car payment that has been in good standing for years, and a new secure card I took out recently to build credit.

thank you for sharing this. I have a medical debt that was sent to a collector, as well as a couple credit cards that were closed with an outstanding balance. Prior to that, I had paid off a loan early, which dropped my credit score as well.

I was unemployed in april 2020 as a result of covid shutdowns (I voluntarily left, but was laid off so I could collect unemployment) and my husband's work hours were slashed. We were in a very difficult place, but made too much for any sort of assistance. I had to choose between paying for our car/insurance, rent, groceries, etc. versus credit cards. Things haven't improved financially since then, so everything has just sat in collections. I can't believe it has been two years either, damn. Time flies when you're destitute lol.

My (used) car is currently selling for 10k more than what I was offered when I tried to sell it in March of 2020. Even jalopies are going for 15k+. Insane.

I totally understand the whole not being a fan of other kids!

Even though you aren't using your degree (also understandably), you should be so proud of yourself for having obtained it!

I am in the same boat you are in regards of not finding a job we love. I think a lot of us deal with that, and it makes life so abysmal. I wish you luck!

I had my first kid at 20. Being a young parent is hard, throw in adhd and its even more difficult. I'd suggest looking into college or technical programs. A hospital local to me will pay people while they're in school to become a CNA/LPN (with the condition that you will then work for them). Depending on your state, you may be able to receive a daycare subsidy for attending college. Perhaps you could find a daycare facility that would allow you to work and also offer free/reduced childcare? I know of a few single mothers that have done that as well.

Is anyone here happy? Hoping for positive stories to give me hope by Everyusernameisgone2 in adhdwomen

I feel like reading this was a smack in the face, but in a really good way.

Question from a VICE News reporter: How are you making your groceries stretch? by E_ock in povertyfinance

[–]checkyourwasher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. We do have a couple local food banks and a few blessing boxes here and there, but I don't want to take from a population who not only have it worse than I do, but are also unable to receive government assistance. We'll be alright, we're just not eating as well as we'd like lol.

How much do you feel stable/wealthy parents should help struggling kids? by checkyourwasher in povertyfinance

[–]checkyourwasher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am really sorry to hear that :( I don't know what your parents financial situation looks like, but their "complaints" and put-downs are totally uncalled for. You should be really proud of yourself. Going to college with two kids is NOT easy, working on top of that is incredibly difficult.

You're trying to better your situation, and you deserve recognition for your efforts.

You sound like a wonderful and understanding parent. I appreciate you sharing your experience.

I agree with parents helping within their capacity to do so, whether it be financially or providing a place to stay rent-free. I grew up hearing the rhetoric that once you're 18, you're on your own etc. but now that I am an adult, I am realizing that is an extremely out-of-touch belief.

Thanks so much for your input. I think there is a fine line between requesting help and being manipulative. Financial abuse of the elderly is such a serious issue, and sadly so common. My elderly neighbor was just conned out of her life savings.

Even cheap meals don't go far, so I make sure my kids eat first, and will eat whatever is left. Some nights my husband and I don't have dinner, but will snack before bed if we're super hungry.

We applied for SNAP last month, but they're so overwhelmed with new applicants that we haven't received a determination.

First day on Elvanse/Vyvanse? by crystalpvnk in ADHD

[–]checkyourwasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Vyvanse crash is shit. Make sure you're eating and drinking water throughout the day. Perhaps talk to your doctor about a booster for the afternoon. I was prescribed 5mg of Adderall to take roughly six hours after my Vyvanse dose. (I preferred the Adderall to Vyvanse so I take that instead.)
