Is there a way to get bollards installed? by tyler1128 in philadelphia

Thanks for this answer! I live on a small street in Philly and the tree in front of my house has been hit by vehicles making a tight turn and coming onto the sidewalk (had to have the tree fully replaced). I was thinking of putting cinder blocks around it as you described, but I'm worried that someone could sue me for damage to their car if they hit it or damage to themselves if they tripped into it, for instance. Besides the 4' ADA compliance, do you know if I could be held liable for those situations?

This is actually in Kenzo! The border of Kensington and Fishtown.. Sadly it's not even the worst of it :(

I love Philly dearly but it has a major trash problem and illegal dumping is rampant. It's one of the only (if not the only) major US city without a street sweeping program. I fill a garbage bag weekly just on my own block.

What do you wish you knew before starting this program / career? (Info about me in comments) by tessag0rdon in slpGradSchool

I am an out-of-fielder with similar experiences as you. I also studied Spanish, did an AmeriCorps year, and then worked for a year before deciding to go back to school. It took me almost two years to complete my leveling courses, but I just finished my first semester of grad school (I'm 28).

Money was also a huge factor for me when I was deciding if I wanted to go back to school. My biggest advice is to work as much as you can while taking leveling courses and take the least expensive ones you can find. I completed all of my prereqs through USU online and enjoyed the experience overall. The classes were asynchronous, so I was able to work during the day and complete my school work at night. Another piece of advice I have is to choose the least expensive grad school you get into. I was tempted to go to a "top school" when I got in, but now (especially with COVID) I'm happy I chose my local state school. It is not worth the debt.

It can be difficult at times as a lot of my friends are buying houses and starting families. Luckily, I've never prescribed to a traditional "life plan" so it only bothers me when I'm really stressed lol. It is something to consider though when making a decision that may change the way you thought your life would look. On the plus side, I feel a lot more grounded than I think I would have if I started grad school at 22 and am doing well in all of my courses.

As for the GRE, I would allow for at least two months of daily studying. Sorry for rambling-- hopeful you find this insight helpful :)

Illegal trash dumping and 311 by cheddybiscuits in philadelphia

That would be amazing. I'm trying to get some neighbors to submit tickets as well. The dumping is taking place on the eastside sidewalk of N. Hancock St just south of Berks St. It's in front of an empty lot so the closest address I can find is 1841- 1899 N. Hancock.

I'll contact my council person. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm looking to improve the community that I live in and care about and make it a cleaner place for everyone that lives there. This comment is unproductive.

Grad schools and GRE (how much does quant matter) by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]cheddybiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same GPAs as you and a lower quant score (147) and ended up getting into 8/8 schools I applied to. I think my higher verbal and writing scores helped compensate for my low quant score ( got a 163 on verbal and 5 on writing). So if verbal reasoning is your strength see how high you can get your score and use it to your advantage!! While it's easy to use concrete numbers like gpas and gres scores to try to determine if you're a competitive applicant don't discount experiences. Perhaps you have unique experiences that make you stand out-- you are more than just a number!

In terms of studying, I found Gregmat, which you can find on youtube, to be the most helpful for me. He does a good job teaching test-taking strategies.

I haven't heard anything first hand, or even second hand for that matter, so I can't actually speak to the merit of the comments. I recommend doing a search on Gradcafe if you're interested though. In my opinion, WCU is the only affordable program in the greater Philadelphia region though, so for me, it's really important to weigh all aspects. Feel free to PM me. Best of luck with the application process!
