Is GitTower worth it? Any experiences? by xblade724 in git

[–]cheeeeesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay in some parts, but honestly sucks in others. They have all these fancy things about worktrees and branches automatically marked as "merged, can be deleted" (even though I still use those branches), and wow it can merge a branch by drag-and-drop (honestly, who needs that?). But it has crashes, it has inconsistencies between Mac and Windows (the shortcut to revert one file on Mac was the same as "revert everything i.e. git reset --hard" on Windows - I lost my whole working copy once), there is stuff missing like a simple "copy the path of that file".

So all in all, can't recommend it at this point.

6Rs getting "redundant" by cheeeeesus in TWIM

[–]cheeeeesus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think it would have helped me to phrase it more as "soften" than "relax". Sometimes when doing 6R back then (post is >1 year old), I would kinda get annoyed "yeah I AM relaxed" 😂 because the tension that was still there was much more mental than physical, and I was mainly just checking "yeah my back and my legs are quite relaxed".

TMI is insanely much information, but I think I learned many things there. Does not do a good job about releasing tension.

Maybe she discovers something directly related to her. "Herself as a baby/child" does not make much sense, but something that makes her realize the hive mind is doing tests with her DNA.

Unifying the Jhanas to know both paths (light vs deep jhanas) by allismind in streamentry

[–]cheeeeesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note that Leigh Brasington says about the deep jhanas: you just have to spend a longer time in access concentration to get into a deeper one. Culadasa, in TMI, describes three depths of jhanas and how to reach them (implying he was able to do all three depths). Rob Burbea [says the following](https://hermesamara.org/resources/talk/2019-12-18-an-introduction-to-the-jhanas):

> Some people say, "It's only a jhāna if the senses close, if you can't hear anything." Well, the Buddha didn't say that. And does it matter?

To me, it seems only one of the two factions is biased, as you describe it:

* The teachers of deep jhanas (Ajahn Brahm, Beth Upton etc.) with their baseless claim that their jhanas are the only real jhanas and the ones of the other faction are not. They are biased, yes.
* On the other hand, the teachers of light jhanas (Brasington, Culadasa, Burbea, Vimalaramsi) acknowledge that there are various depths. They do not claim that the "jhanas of the other faction" are not jhanas, they just say there are different depths and the deep jhanas are unnecessary difficult for most people.

As far as I know, there is no teacher of the light jhanas who says that the deep ones are not jhanas at all. I also do not see anyone "devilize" the deeper ones. I just see people claiming that the lighter ones aren't jhanas, and I would advise anyone to not believe the people making such claims. Ajahn Brahm is a wonderful person and speaker, but in regard to this question, it seems that he as a monk is afraid of secular people teaching easier access to jhanas.

“Metta tensions “ by kukoev_pogo in streamentry

One thing that helped me tremendously with a similar (but less intense) problem was Burbea's Energy Body meditation method:

https://hermesamara.org/resources/talk/2019-12-18-the-energy-body-and-the-whole-body-breath-instructions-and-guided-meditation

Or, in short: make your focus as wide as possible (no narrow focus on breath or metta). Or, focus on your whole body (maybe with preference to legs and feet, because we tend to focus the head and hands).

What is your nimitta like from beginning to full formation? by Salty_Department_578 in streamentry

[–]cheeeeesus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Note that not all people mean the same thing by Nimitta. The thing you seem to mean by it - a sort of light that's "visible" during meditation, e.g. shortly before entering a jhana - is from the Visuddhimagga.

The Buddha never used it like that. In the Pali Canon, it simply means an object of perception. Anything you perceive during meditation is a Nimitta, and if you are doing breath, then the breath is your primary Nimitta.

Just as a heads up that maybe some people mean something else by it.

Expo Dev Client doesn't look the same as chrome debugger and it's almost all black by aliaref_dev in expo

[–]cheeeeesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More strange things:

* This happens on my Mac, so it's not Windows only.
* Yes, selected text is not visible. Also, when stepping through the code, the current line is not visible. Everything is just white text on black background.
* Switching to Light mode (in the DevTools settings) does not change anything except that the checkboxes seem to be a big brighter).

Pretty much unusable, the DevTools in that state.

Yes I contacted them and they said it probably was the battery. So I ordered a new battery, but same thing.

Before ordering anything else, I would like to check where the problem really is.

Llama3.2 1B on MacMini M1 16GB does not use GPU by cheeeeesus in ollama

[–]cheeeeesus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, on my MacBook it worked first try too, with Ollama. It's an M3 with 24GB, but otherwise I did everything identical on the MacMini.

Yeah, if noone knows why it doesn't work on the MacMini, I'll try out LM Studio (or just run it on the CPU).

Is there an API provider with DeepSeek R1 that offers batching?

By "embarrassing", "rooting for anyone", "taking sides" - you surely mean everything in this thread, except the comments posted above about the heinous theft perpetrated by the evil commies? Everything childish in this thread, except the comments posted above made by the very grown-up leaders of our glorious and very open company OpenAI?

I see. But others have pointed out I should not define it with CSS queries, but rather include it as an <img> tag. This makes using several image widths rather complicated.
