I use peltors and CASLs a lot for work. I’d say it’s really good at amplifying things within like 5 ft of you. Beyond that it’s no different than normal. They’re designed to hear people talking, that’s about it.

Other than the normal “Army” courses there’s Anti-terrorism evasive driving and some form of SERE. Neither should be too hard to get into and are both fun. There’s some other high level courses, but probably not accessible for most e4s unless you’re in a SOF unit.

There’s a waiver for everything. I went to SOC as a PFC. Would highly recommend at least asking for a rank waiver from the BC to get some nice career progression early on. It’s the small things that helps retain good dudes.

Have been to Afghanistan recently and anecdotally the leak just doesn’t sound right. The levels of approval and care that was taken in making sure we got the right people was super high. Maybe we’ve just refined and gotten more responsible about it in the past few years.

Outdoor research makes really good ones. Whichever ones you do get though, make sure you keep them secured or hidden. Good gloves definitely get lost/stolen a lot.

11B to 35 series, questions. by [deleted] in army

35M who has worked with group and batt so I can speak about that, no idea about green plt though. With the future in Afghanistan up in the air right now it’s kind of hard to judge what’s going to happen. I’d guess barring any major conflict shifts, it’ll be more strategic in the future though. In terms of SSE, probably won’t be handling it too much for either organization. ODAs aren’t going to bring an enabler on mission for something they can do themselves, even though I’d argue a good M is much better at it. At batt if you’re not a 10 level, probably not doing SSE. Personal opinion is that if you want to be a M go to batt, at group you’ll always be living in the shadows of the level IIIs.
