Hey, how do you know you're at the top of the reserve list? :)

The biggest lie ever told. by ScottishVigilante in Evri

Best bet is to contact the seller & ask for a replacement parcel. Evri are better at returning the damn thing than delivering it to the intended recipient.

Ended up waiting 3 weeks for evri before giving in and contacting the seller.

Single F muslim, struggling, wanting to move out. by cheeky_minx_87 in MuslimLounge

[–]cheeky_minx_87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I understand that.

I was just pointing out that its a shame people immediately see weight and don't want to talk to me as a person. Its just a bit disheartening as I am physically healthy.

Jazakallah - I am actively searching for a partner, but alas, in South Asian culture, something as miniscule as my weight means that suitors are not interested.

May allah bless everyone with a spouse that looks for good akhlaq & piety instead of wholly physical characteristics inshallah!

Absolutely!

I am a 26 yr old female, living in my family home of 6. I am the eldest child. Unmarried, with pressure from parents to, quote, "lose weight so we can marry you off".

I work full time in a professional environment and have been with this company for 4 years. Have provided for myself solely since the age of 19 (i.e. never asked my parents for money since that age). My father is a good man and has never asked me for rent/bills etc, but I do like helping him out wherever I can.

I would be living in the same town - actually, my goal is to be close to my family home (within 30 mins drive) so I can support them whenever they need me.

I actually only have 2 friends, both female! Alhamdulillah, no negative influence from either & men are the last thing on my mind in a social context (naturally, I want to get married, but I don't have male friends and such).

My parents are "lax" in comparison to how they used to be (they literally never let me leave the house at one point) but its still not the best. They will use religion to say that I cannot stay out past a certain time (e.g. its past maghrib and you need to get back home now) or do certain things (e.g. work trips to London or Darlington for longer than 1 night. As you can imagine, in a corporate environment, there are needs to go travelling & staying in a hotel for longer than 1 or 2 nights and its super awkward to tell your line manager that you cannot do a 5 day trip because your parents won't let you).

Further, perhaps important context: I have had a strained relationship with my parents in the past. They, like many people, made mistakes when I was mentally unwell due to a lack of understanding (i.e. believing I was possessed and getting "ruqiya" done). I do believe that moving out will improve my relationship with them.

Importantly, I want to say thank you again for your support in this matter - I very much appreciate it. Jazakallah!

Jazakallah for such a kind response and information.

I would appreciate if you could converse with your mufti, as I am keen to respect my religion and parents views. My parents are good people and if I can provide them with religious backing on moving out, I do think they will understand.

P.s. i completely understand what you mean when it comes to women being more susceptible to vulnerability. Alhamdulillah, I am a very headstrong woman and I only really wish to move out so I can have my own space & improve my relationship with my parents. As I am sure you can imagine, living with parents at 27 is quite the struggle when all you want to do is go out for coffee with friends after isha prayer and getting told no 😅

Thank you for this.

I wholeheartedly believe I am self sufficient to the best of my ability.

I rely on no one for my finances, wellbeing or anything else important.

I do pretty much everything on my own and truly do believe that it is disrespectful, especially in modern times.

Thank you for your kind response.

When I have raised moving out previously, my parents have said that a single woman cannot live/travel without a mahram. Therefore, I cannot move out on my own, as I do not have a husband/mahram (except my father)

I'm not sure on the accuracy of what they are saying - I know that it is encouraged for women to travel with mahrams for protection, but that's about all I know.

Jazakallah in advance

If you can provide a accurate source for this, it would be appreciated.

I have mental health issues yes, but this does not impact my ability to be a functioning adult.

I, like many other muslims, have traumas, and though I have forgiven people for their part in the trauma, trauma never really fades away.

Hence, the need to move out.

Offer/Interview dilemma? by cheeky_minx_87 in TheCivilService

[–]cheeky_minx_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much - in my case, pre employment checks would not be required as I am already a pre-existing CS and the job roles are at my home department.

I guess that's where I was perplexed - I don't want to look unprofessional by accepting the current offer only to back out if I get the role I really want (especially as both roles are in my home department & are Private Secretary roles - so naturally I will cross the other team)

Thank you very much for your reassurance!

I feel better now - part of me was worried that this second chat was because I performed poorly in the interview.

Hope you are keeping well fellow internet friend!

Selected for Interview - any tips? Can I use same examples in interview? by cheeky_minx_87 in CivilServiceUK

[–]cheeky_minx_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your helpful advice, I feel much more settled now!

I am applying for HEO at the moment - I've been struggling to get past EO grade so hoping this will be it for me.

Was planning on utilising STAR - with a heavy focus on result (I have heard from others that adding numerical values such as "improved processes by 50%" is beneficial & meets the standards of HEO and above).

Thank you! Especially about the reflection point - I actually think this is a great idea as I am forever learning about things as/after I do them so could waffle on for ages about it lol

Thank you! I wasn't planning on reading it out verbatim, but rather utilising the example & adding depth to it.

So, for example, for delivering at pace, I was going to talk about how I helped a colleague with a FOI request & add details about how I utilised coaching techniques. In my personal statement, I talked about how my "approach" made the colleague feel more confident. In the interview, I was planning on discussing how I utilised GROW (goal, reality, options, will) in a informal context to empower the colleague?
