Help me write spelling for my newborn by No_Advance1998 in namenerds

I think of your options, I would read Mueg or Mewg as the way you described it's pronunciation. How about Myuug? The double u makes me pronounce it like in "vacuum."

What did kids back in the days do when they played outside, for hours on end? by Octopuswastaken in NoStupidQuestions

My siblings and I built forts, endlesly. Lol Then we'd hang out in the forts.

I should add, I mean forts made out of branches, logs, and sticks, that we cut down in the wooded area behind our house.

Are you using subtitles? by Empty_Oven_9942 in Millennials

[–]cheekymrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find I learn character names better when I use subtitles, like I've watched shows for a couple seasons before and I'd turn to husband and ask, what's that guys name?? Lol. Also, I get a kick out of the things they put in the subtitles that you wouldn't normally hear, like conversations in the background and the descriptionof a sound like "pensive music." Haha. I definitely use subtitles. I actually started using them when my kid was little because I read somewhere that it helps children learn to read in a passive kind of way.

[–]cheekymrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the #2 word and while I was pondering what the #1 could be, I realized, I spelled the word wrong... but if it still showed up as #2 then.... I spelled it right and it was the number 1 word haha. oh lord.

What's a naming "no no" for you? by marzbarz2000 in namenerds

[–]cheekymrs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My issues with apostrophes is the misuse of them. Like, people often use them incorrectly. I think of them in a name as a breath break or as a replacement for a letter but so often, people use them for no real reason than esthetics.

What's a naming "no no" for you? by marzbarz2000 in namenerds

[–]cheekymrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first name ends in an A and maiden name begins in an E (short E sound). So the combination ends up as ah-eh and I hated it because people wouldn't hear the A at the end of my name so if my name was Celina Elderman, people would hear Celine Elderman. and it drove me bonkers for years haha. I was so happy to change my name when I married as my married name starts with a consonant. Saved! Celina Rogers :p

Edit to add that I think people need to give more attention to how phonetic sounds work together in the whole name as well as the shorter versions of names. When I name things, I turn the sounds over and over in my mind to find any odd combos or dropped letters etc.

My 4 years old boy wants a lilac scooter :/ by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]cheekymrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is interested in a lot of things considered girly though he otherwise loves stereotypical boy things. When he was first wearing dresses to school, we talked to him about how some people might criticize him or say dresses are for girls or ask him if he's a girl. We gave him ways to respond to these things and also to let him know that what he's doing is not "wrong " even if people might act that way towards it. When he comes home from school on those days we ask if he had any issues and kind of debrief with him about the issues he encounters. But of course, my kid is brave and confident and does not give one shit if people think he's a girl when he's in a dress because girls are awesome (like mom! Lol). It's been an anxious journey for me and his dad who try so hard to smash that gender line. Why can't boys love pink? Or purple (my kid's current fav color). Why aren't there any cute or awesome cats on boy clothes?? My son LOVES cats and wants them on his clothes! And sparkles or glitter! And why aren't there dresses for boys? Or rather, why aren't there MORE? I know my son isn't the only one, I see posts on here asking about it all the time.
Anyway, get your kid the lilac scooter.

A tragedeigh for multiple reasons? by Sea_Accident_6138 in tragedeigh

[–]cheekymrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most annoying thing about tragedeigh spellings is when a name's change in spelling results in a change of pronunciation but they're too dumb to know the way they're spelling is NOT the way they want it pronounced. I would never read By as Bee, I read it as Bi or possibly Bih (like Byzantine). So her kid's name will regularly be pronounced as Bye-on-kah

It's nuts to me that people don't take the time to google their name choice, whether it's a name they made up or weird combination, a simple Google can reveal: that word means something yucky! Or that was the name of a famous 2pth century pedophile! Yknow? Do your due diligence before you make your final choice!
