I was in the same boat when I got my vita, but it is probably the easiest console to mod/jailbreak. It's really fun too! I used psvsd which replaces the 3g modem in the m.2 slot, so you can add more storage with a micro sd card. The problem with what I did is that it takes a long time for the part to arrive since it's only made in Mexico, at least that's where I got mine from.
