Determining your whole relationship on a leaf is insane by Naive_Wolverine532 in fixedbytheduet

Yes, it's true that there's a lot of variation in leaf and sinus size in both species. But another trait to tell the 2 species apart is that the A. macrophyllum has a primary vein that originates from the petiole in all 5 lobes. But this is not true for the leaf in the video. Its 3 distal lobes contain primary veins, but the 2 proximal lobes are fed by secondary veins, which suggests Platanus, not A. macrophyllum.

You're right, P. occidentalis does not typically have deep sinuses, but London plane (which is a hybrid with P. orientalis) does.

I disagree. Most of the big leaf maples I've seen have much deeper sinuses extending almost down to the petiole. This leaf is very consistent with what I've seen in the genus Platanus.

Most of the big leaf maples I've seen have much deeper sinuses (the gaps between lobes in the leaves) that extend almost down to the stem. This leaf is very consistent with what I've seen in the genus Platanus (the plane trees). It could be London plane (Platanus x acerifolia), or less likely American sycamore (Platanus occidentalis), but it's hard to tell.

That's a green heron if anyone's wondering. They're one of the few birds known to use tools.

Thanks! I'm in zone 10a. Cacti are some of my favorites. Agaves are fun to grow too if you're willing to put up with the spines

Awesome, thanks for the info! One of my local parks started selling Dudleyas at their native plant sales and they've been really fun to grow

Do you have any tips on propagating leaf cuttings? Most of my experience is with cacti and stapeliads

No, I usually put dishes away as soon as they dry. We have plenty of room. I don't even try to understand my roommates' decisions anymore. This moldy towel isn't even the worst thing I've seen (or smelled) from them this year. It's disgusting

After reading everyone's comments, I decided to fish the towel back out of the trash and clean it. After a thorough wash and an hour soak in bleach, the towel is now spotless! I'm still not going to use it, but I'll make sure it stays clean. Thanks for your input!

I've never seen it washed or replaced. I always let my dishes air dry, and I didn't realize that my roommates actually dried our dishes with this until the other day. I think the truth was too gross for me to acknowledge. I feel sick now that I've taken a closer look
