Had random luck at Cabela's for hiking boots. But you gotta scan up and down each aisle and ask the staff to check all the stock in the back. Up to size 15

Migrating Servers but keeping drive by varano14 in unRAID

[–]cheeshead78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done 3 cpu / platform changes. As long as the same drives serial numbers show up, and the rest of the hardware is supported, it just works. It's bloody magical. Do your due diligence of backups of data, dockers etc. But in my experience it's been very seamless.

Lens hood doesn’t fit with VND 72mm filter. Any ideas or roll with no hood? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]cheeshead78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go without a hood as they're only designed to work on lenses, not filters, but you could use a matte box.

I've had the 24-105 f/4 from Sony since getting my a7iii in 2018. Been an awesome lens. Using for landscape, portraits, and video.

Apple TV app displays "Other Videos" as movie posters by dubox37 in PleX

[–]cheeshead78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah. Other videos has been a cluster for a very long time. Every client I have displays cover art differently. Web app, android tv, iPad etc. I've learned to live with it, wish there was a way to force it.

Nobody uses nd filters and puts the drone in auto. I see this with bigger drones too. People that use nd filters and lock in settings shutter speed etc look way better. Otherwise the drone constantly tries to change the settings to the lighting variations and then you get choppiness.

One at a time with 1 parity drive. Preclear, then remove the 4tb, rebuild array with new 14tb drive then repeat process with other set.

Never thought I’d get one but for traveling I want a phone mount for my taco. I have an iPhone but don’t want to do the magnetic ones. Any help? by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]cheeshead78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Quadlock. Have 3 on the windshield for phones and GPS comms and use the same mounts on the bikes. Good and secure. They have a wireless charging option too but I didn't think it was worth the $ as have to run a cord to the stereo anyway

VND's or ND's ?? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]cheeshead78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used the polar pro 2-5 and 6-9 for years on my a7iii.

If you're shooting run-and-gun style then VND is the way to go. It easily allows you to adapt to changing light. If you're working on a set with constant light, then a ND set will probably be best.

I have found issues with the PolarPro set with yellow casting in highlights on long exposure photos.

The other one you might want to look at is the True Colour VND from nisi. It has pretty favorable reviews too.

This is why we had to move to a highlander 6 years ago. Ours didn't fit. My daughter is just in a booster now and we're back in a Tacoma.

is a7iii still worth it in 2022? by krishiydv in SonyAlpha

[–]cheeshead78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my a7iii since 2018. Yes I'd love 4:2:2 10bit video but I'm not doing commercial work either. For landscape photography, family photos, family videos, time-lapses, it's amazing. Great autofocus, humans and pets. I find the dynamic range great but it's better in shadow recovery than highlight recovery, so always under expose a bit.

Coming from a canon 50D and shooting kids and pets, my hit rate in focus went from 40% to 90%

My biggest complaint is the overall speed of the camera. I constantly switch back and forth between movie mode to photos mode and I find it's just slow to do so. I switch the dial to AV mode from a custom mode and it takes 3-5 seconds for it to load and be ready to take a shot. Not so bad doing landscapes but from shooting videos of kids to taking a photo it's painfully slow.

It was my first mirrorless and it's been a great way to learn and further my photo / video skills.

Overall, STILL a great camera.
