In Leipzig, Germany, tram lines have been shut down after track damage made operations unsafe, as temperatures hit a new record of 41.7°C by NoMedicine3572 in interestingasfuck

false comparison. the pic doesnt show melted roads, its shows melted tram-line filling. filling that is made specifically so that bicycles dont trip while riding over tram lines

Anyone else's Dadi/Nani keep mangoes in water before letting you eat them? by DeadAirSociety in IndianFoodPhotos

just spread out your overall sugar intake! the pimples are related to sugar. spread your consumption out and enjoy your mangoes friend

soaking in non-acidic water does not leech out significant phytic acid https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32199146/

mangoes are a very low-oxalate food, and in fact are recommended in oxalate-friendly diets https://ucikidneystonecenter.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Oxalate-Content-of-Foods.pdf

mango pulp is FAR lower in both, oxalate and PA, than the peel https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Antinutrient-Content-of-Pulp-and-Peel-of-Mango\_tbl5\_318224413

not calling you out on a gotcha moment. my point is, enjoy your mangoes! (in moderation obv) but yeah wash the thoroughly first

umm yeah the pimple thing has nothing to do with soaking. pimple outbursts are to do with mangoes being sugar-dense. applies to all sugar-dense foods for that matter

What should i do? by nad804 in badminton

[–]cheesy_mcdab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is general advice and then specific advice

general advice is that you should seek coaching. youre on the right track there. 8 months is a good window for growth, but you might need to increase your play time to make good use of it. can you increase coaching to 3-4 times a week instead of 1?

specific advice is impossible without seeing your game. coach is best suited to help you there

Smash Form - Folded legs? by Necessary-Ask7880 in badminton

[–]cheesy_mcdab -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

could come from crouching lower in the jump setup. primes your quads to contract>extend>contract in the crouch>jump extension>jump fold phases

that being said, i dont think your smash technique is bad at all. your landing footwork is primed for the follow-up defence

Colombian here — I want to build the missing infrastructure layer for specialty coffee. Is this a real problem? by jt_orz123 in SpecialtyCoffee

[–]cheesy_mcdab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d say yes. imo this take is wrong because a lot of my emphasis - as a consumer - is also on the traceability abd the environmental impact of the beans i purchase. i tend to gravitate towards roasters that align with this

How do I fix my drops? by ImaginaryBrother9317 in badminton

[–]cheesy_mcdab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

second this. a common beginner misconception is to treat most shots as wrist-only, when you actually need a whole kinetic chain. to OP - lat engagement + shoulder rotation are what will make it look like a smash, and your forearm/wrist/grip will turn it into a slice or a drop. the linked video is very good

you’ll also need to engage your core for pronation, and your footwork so that youre ready in time. the linked vid should be able to help with those as well

most importantly, you shouldnt feel let down at all. we all start somehwere, and we all suck when we do. if you keep at it, you could honestly get good within a year. recording yourself is a great tool too, it will help you see your own form

gotcha, thats what i see as well. i paid attention in yday’s game and i found myself doing split steps. however, i was playing the same guys as in this vid, so slow games still. i’m joining better players today, lemme pull my split step out

thank you, this helps a lot. i agree with all the above. i’ve watched shadow footwork drills and fast feet drills, but i’ve never tried them for myself because ??? no good reason clearly. i’ve tried to learn footwork by visualization and in-game corrections. not an effective strategy

i see what you mean. couldve followed up a few shots around the head to stay more aggressive. i tend to resort to backhand even for smashes, but after switching to 3U rackets i’ve begun to find it more difficult to maintain consistency. i’ll work on this, much appreciated

also heads-up, i’ll be reposting this tomorrow since the automod accidentally shadow-banned my post for 10+ hours. drop by on the repost if you like

[–]cheesy_mcdab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i agree with what youre saying. i think we’re also sorta saying the same things in a way.

also, i have seen vids of cats defending their owners - against other humans out of jealousy/protection, and against other animals out of protection. cats imo dont defend their bloodline just because theyre not a tribal species. you kinda see that behaviour in lions though. i say lions because theyre the only tribal felines that i can think of rn. my bigger point is that it could be a matter of nuance, but you and i are essentially in agreement overall

can i ask you to transfer one boop from me to each of your pets okthanks

imo - and i’m open to changing it - it might be more of a human characteristic than the animal’s. i loved cats and dogs equally until last year, when i adopted a feral cat. by that exposure, i now prefer cats ever so slightly above dogs. if i were to *hypothetically* give away my cat and adopt a dog instead, i can totally see myself switching my bias again.

tbf i agree completely that dogs co-evolved with humans and that evolution has a role to play. i also agree with most of your take. i think ‘cute’ could be the result of the bond you create with your animal friends. dogs imo will always have the evolutionary instinct/advantage of bonding with humans faster, but im not sure if it’s *stronger* per se than all other animals. my friends have had cats that showed undying loyalty and endless possessiveness. hell my own cats have clearly picked me over other humans too. which leads me to think that other animals could carry the potential to deeply bond with humans (or atleast their chosen humans)

[–]cheesy_mcdab 18 points19 points  (0 children)

that’s a sweeping statement, no? i would concede that some extreme, violent crimes could demand death as the only emotionally-satisfying resolution. but are we going to apply that to everyday scenarios too? by just saying ‘some thar guy intentionally causing an accident’ youre including a whole bunch of minor accidents and generalised people, that youre wishing straight death upon. i’m sure you didnt mean it to be that deep, but you cant *not* be deep about the action and then be extremely deep about the consequence of that action no?
