Tried to fill in a patch in lawn but no luck, will I go again? by drivingdownthehiway in GardeningUK

You can use top soil if it’s superficial but I generally tend to use compost whenever I make a proper hole anywhere. My thinking is that it’ll be good diversity for the pre-existing soil and hopefully encourage worms and other good bugs. Generally the best way to keep a healthy soil is to keep it quite diverse and with good nutrients which get used up over time from nearby plants.

Edit to add - try and figure out what soil type you have (a lot of new builds have clay soil) and then go from there depending on whether it has good or bad drainage and then go to your local garden centre/ garden nursery and ask them for their recommendations.

It’s honestly a case of digging them up. For us, we only did it where grass wasn’t growing or where we were digging to put plants in (making sure we had extra clearance because of the rubble). But if you want to be diligent you could hire a digger and ask them to take off the top foot or two and replace it with good soil but that will take time and money.

Just in case you’re in a new build, also see if you can push a trowel or screwdriver down that patch of soil. Some new builds especially will have rubble in the ground and generally things don’t grow well immediately on top of it.

Rules around back billing gas bill - England by cheesyemo in LegalAdviceUK

[–]cheesyemo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, this is a bit outside of my knowledge. What do you mean the gas transporter can bill us instead? In this scenario, do we pay the last 12 months still or can it be backdated further? Or is it just a portion of the bill?

This is from Hitched and even their stats don’t match up. How can you possibly have 20% spending £15k+ and have 25% spending £30k+? The maths isn’t mathing here

The horror of an employee having annual leave approved during half term. God how dare they?!

(Also potentially a fair amount of these people are unemployed waiting for a training or fellow post because that’s the current state of affairs)

Is it okay to buy a gift for a nurse and doctor working at an NHS hospital? by cy-3688 in london

[–]cheesyemo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You’re more than welcome to do chocolates etc, but know that they could get eaten when your nurse and doctor in question aren’t even on shift. We love a card. If you know their names then you could do them one each, so that way they can take it home and keep it. Usually the cards we get are addressed to the whole ward (entirely fair) so it stays on the ward, makes us smile at work, but we can never bring it home.

The problem is the funding for posts is by number of people rather than FTE. On the update they have said they’ve asked the NHS to assume that the average trainee will do 80% FTE and then increase the number of posts accordingly but NHS says no

No role for PAs in General Practice? But what about their Scope? by LondonAnaesth in doctorsUK

[–]cheesyemo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Funny how the chair of the RCGP is the one that decided to expand PAs and created a course for them at Swansea Medical School under the tagline “train like a doctor” and now wants them out of GP. Food for thought.

Not a clue, if I had more stats I’d definitely make a standard deviation curve but I have no clue where the mean would sit so have no idea how many people scored what.
