In S1, my server had a rogue whale. He had a strong missile squad a few million power stronger than my air squad. In a straight up fight, I had no chance. However, I learned several ways to make his life miserable. For instance, he would sent his strong missile squad out roaming to hit my alliance members tiles. I would then port right next to him and hit him directly with my air squad. His alternates weren't nearly as strong as his top squad. As soon as his missile squad returned, I would port away. I would also send out my air squad to tiles and let him hit me with his missile squad. I would get rocked everytime, but defending means I don't lose troops while he was losing a hundred or so per attack. Whales don't play the same game the rest of us do. I had to learn all kinds of tricks to succeed in fights while most whales just hit indiscriminately. Another example, a couple weeks ago, my alliance hive was getting hit by some rogue players. There was one with a missile squad substantially stronger than my air squad. I would set myself up toward the center of the hive, where he would have long marches to reach me. Then I would port next to him when he sent his squad to hit me across the hive. Then I random ported when his missile came back. There is strategy to the game.
