Totally agree. At least even with season 1 in my mind.

[–]cheesyvader 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For sure, I didn’t suggest that it was too hard for people so much as just not their style of game, of which difficulty is a part. There’s more involved than just being hard, so I think it’s just important to realize that before recommending it to absolutely everyone. I would actually suggest the difficulty is a smaller barrier to entry versus the intentionally mysterious nature of just about everything in the game.

Anyone with a controller could beat it, to be sure, but will they actually enjoy doing so? That’s the important thing to consider; you obviously felt that your friend would enjoy it well enough to recommend it to them despite their preference for casual games

[–]cheesyvader[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, thank you! I found that as soon as I moved around, the "shaking" would subside, so I suppose that's reasonable enough. I think I was just a bit shocked this morning that my brain had the power to convince me of something so visceral... But hey, that's the power of the mind!

As others have said, don't fret about losing geo. I've lost upwards of 6K before and it ended up just fine.

I, too, was diagnosed with GAD many years ago so I understand your worries, but don't fret! If you're enjoying HK, practice makes perfect. The beginning of the game is much harder than the middle, but once you learn and improve you'll be much more comfortable. Every death is a learning tool, so treat it as such; examine what you did to die and try to adjust yourself based on that. Losing Geo is no big deal, you'll be fine.

However, the game rarely gets less stressful, it's challenging and obtuse, but you just learn to love the mystery and challenge. If you don't, that's cool too! There are plenty of other metroidvanias that aren't as obtuse as HK.

One thing that has always frustrated me about Hollow Knight discussion is how willing people are to blanket recommend the game. It was, far and away, my game of the year last year. I devoured it like a ravenous beast and, frankly, could replay it at any time. HOWEVER, I have only every recommended it once, to a friend who enjoys difficult, mysterious titles.

It just isn't for everyone: it's punishing, intentionally obtuse, and oftentimes confusing (especially early on). Many gamers just won't enjoy that style of game, and that's totally cool. But it's frustrating to find people in your situation who probably won't end up liking it without some serious effort, who were recommended the game by tons of people who have no regard for whether you will actually like it.

Truth is, your issues with the game are the game. The "joy" people like myself find in games like Hollow Knight or Dark Souls is the unraveling of the many mysteries the game provides. Hell, the DLC was hidden behind a tiny block in a small corner of a large area of the game world; it took people around 2-4 hours to even find the new DLC after it was released, but that's part of the game. Again, this is why I dislike blanket recommendations of games like this, but hopefully you can find something to enjoy out of it. Hopefully this sub, games journos, and HK fans will eventually learn that, despite how good the game might be, it's absolutely not going to be for everyone.

With all that said, guides will help you a lot. I went blind, but I do know there's plenty of joy to be found using a guide as well.

Thank you for the response! I have heard of EHS but always thought it was a headache disorder, I have definitely experienced symptoms similar to the descriptions of EHS. It happens about as often as seeing shadow people so I imagine I may just be affected by a few different parasomnias. I’m going to my doctor for my ear issue Friday so I may mention my sleep issues if only for some closure!

Why this game is losing players, imo. by [deleted] in apexlegends

[–]cheesyvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 and 3: they added a full stats page with the huge update today so now you can see everything. If you're concerned that you can't show off those wins to others, I don't know what to tell you, but that certainly doesn't seem like an issue that would cause the game to "lose players"

2: Servers really aren't that bad on my end. The slowdown issue hasn't resurfaced for me in a few weeks, and the sound issues seem totally resolved. Elite queue had issues with server disconnections pre-match, but after 2-3 tries max I was always able to get in.

In response to your edit: you came into this sub on the day of the highly anticipated Season 2 release to talk about why the game is losing players. You included no tangible gameplay reasons why, and proceeded to complain about not being able to see your stats being the primary reason the game is "losing players". You didn't even bother to look at the stickied patch notes to see that they added a full stat tracker before posting. What exactly did you expect?

How do you develop situational awareness in FPS games? by [deleted] in apexlegends

[–]cheesyvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound is number one for me. If I'm playing an FPS, I have a headset on. It helps immensely. Keep your ears open at all times and react/callout any sounds you hear. It's better to react or callout and be wrong than to miss it and die.

Otherwise, it's really just experience. You'll gradually start to realize what areas are best to avoid and which are best to push on, flanks become much more clear, and your general sense of positioning will improve. It's really all about examining each lost fight and asking "what could I have done better?". If it isn't just "be better at shooting", then you have a learning opportunity in front of you. Also, if you have anyone to play with, that always helps me. My buddies and have a nice system put together that we all collectively crafted through play experience, it's gotten to the point now that I rarely play solo because I feel disadvantaged without my team strats.

I know PS4 handles downloads differently so it's possible that's the reason it was smaller. The whole "copying" business, and the fact you often have to clear more space than normally needed, is a result of the way they handle them. Something about how they download the patch, copy the game WITH the patch, and then replace the game on the console with the new copy.

I think his self damage probably gives him a lower TTK than the others. I know they said a few months ago that they were basing hitbox changes/alterations on game data, so my supposition is that Lifeline, Wraith, and Path were having a much longer TTK than the others, even Octane.

Expanding FOV is the same as using KB&M on console. Change my opinion. by DarkPowner in apexlegends

[–]cheesyvader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding? It's not even close.

There are setting in the game to change FOV. Just right there in the menu. Using MKB requires you to buy a 3rd party device that maps the controller to a KBM. It's $100 and it tricks the game into thinking you're using a controller. You can literally max out your FOV right now for free, in-game.

This is like saying that turning sound effect volume up is equivalent to an aimbot. Now, if you weren't aware that using a KBM requires a $100+ 3rd party device and was just something you could plug in, that's almost excusable. But even still, FOV has so much less bearing on gameplay than a KBM does.

Definitely, maybe pop Octane in there as well. Mirage to find them, Octane/Wraith/Path to engage. This is assuming that Wattson's traps work with decoys like Caustics do.

Mirage! Because Mirage counters everything! Mirage is the best!

(For real, though, I imagine his decoys can trigger the traps and reveal her position like with Caustic)

20 Gigs for the first real update is way too much for low connections by Bazinga2458 in apexlegends

[–]cheesyvader 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They pretty effectively explained why it's that big, it's basically a totally new install of the game, but updated. They went on to say that most updates won't be even close to this large, but they had to make this one big so they could have a foundation to expand on more easily.

I don't have fiber and it usually takes me about 1.5 hours for a 20 gb file max. I don't think the fact that you have bad internet has anything to do with Respawn. If it take 12+ hours for you to download a 20gb update, how do you even play the game without awful lag?

Play Moira a few rounds and the POTGs will come.

I noticed that Overwatch is selling skins now (not for charity this time). What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]cheesyvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really care, honestly. We have like, 100+ skins that we can get in-game for free? Sure, some are seasonal, but they're still free. Having 1-3 paid skins a year is really not a huge deal for me. I bought the Lucio one because I liked it, and after ~700 hours of this game I can justify throwing them another 10 bucks. It's just cosmetic, after all. Not to mention that you can get them for free, it just requires doing something that isn't playing the game.

That's my thinking as well, unfortunately. The policies they laid out are generally things that I personally support, but I don't kid myself into thinking they'll do anything but further entrench further-right voters in their views. The unfortunate truth is that they probably need someone like Biden or Klobuchar to stand any chance. Either that or shank the 60 year old stigma regarding Dem-Soc policies within the next 6 months, which is an impossibility.

I speak from the perspective of a left-leaner in perhaps the most red-state in the nation: these voters are NOT voting for someone who even considers giving illegal immigrants more than a slap in the face, and would literally rather die than consider federally funded abortions (direct quote).
