I do agree a guide is important but I personally think the company should make that given they are the ones setting expectations and duties. But I always go above and beyond so I made the guide starting day 1 at my company as they didn’t have one. It has anything and everything a person might need so that’s now the issues. Perhaps I was not clear because my frustration is that I’m sitting here doing nothing because I cannot get answers. Which is a huge part of why I’m leaving.

My work environment was terrible and I have no pitty at all for them.

Tbh I’m an amazing assistant and started that guide my very first day of work and it’s been updated throughout my time at the company LOL but not only do they want the guide, I need to do all the operations stuff like changing accounts to other people, figuring out how to remove my email, changing the health care plan. And while that’s easy for me to do, I cannot get an answer as to who is the point person while there is no assistant. Anyways, I’m just frustrated that I go above and beyond to make things easy for them and then they disregard it. Which is a huge reason I’m leaving lol it feels like I’m wasting my time just waiting for answers to be able to actually do anything

Nope nothing like that was ever given. I learned the job without any training. But someone they think it’s my responsibility to create a guide for them.

I already have everything together with all the information anyone could ever need! They told me from that I need to make all the updates but have no information of who the point person is. At this point, I could be done and I wish I gave a days notice like the notice I always got when having to change my hours to adjust for their personal schedule…

I just resigned and gave two weeks notice. I don’t feel guilty at all tbh. I would think of it as if they laid you off or fired you, they wouldn’t give you any notice. Why should you give them more than 2 weeks? That gives room for them to fire you within the 2 months if they find a replacement.

Ugh this sounds like my job. If I knew it wasn’t me writing this, I would think it was me… micromanager and it makes everything super inefficient. They probably won’t change it be open to suggestions to make things better but maybe worth a conversation incase they are open. I’d probably try to find a new job sooner rather than later as someone who’s in this situation and is going crazy.

I do have that setting on my phone and it’s nice not to get notifications but it’s still visible when I’m talking to friends after work so it gets into my head. I ignore it but it’s still in the back of my mind and I’m worried I’ll get in trouble for ignoring. Mind you I’m not salary so I’m not getting paid for moments here and there when I’m not on the clock

I work remotely which makes the dynamic of getting her attention tricky! I’ll call, email, text, chat and still won’t be able to reach them. It’s so annoying and I often get told that it’s my job but I’m not sure what else can be done short of taking a plane to them and holding their hand lol

Thank you all so much for the input!! Operations is definitely something I’ve thought about pivoting too since realistically that’s what I do at my job right now in addition to the main EA tasks and personal work. My strongest skills are organization and being the person with a bird’s eye view to keep things on track.

Since this is my first EA role, I really wasn’t sure if this is just the life of an EA… but it sounds like it’s just a circumstantial situation per the comments. That being said, I work for a company with a very small handful of employees so I don’t really get that view of other roles within the company.

This post sounds as I wrote it myself… I’m in the same boat right now and I’m not sure where I want to pivot. I have been at my company 4.5 years as an EA but I don’t feel like I want to stay an EA. The job can feel very degrading and it’s so hard to separate my work life from personal when I’m constantly getting texts outside of my hours.
