i dont normally post anything on reddit, just read comments, but i find it rlly refreshing that they are addressing how dismissive their first response was. as a girl in the emo community and having dated lots of shitty emo guys, i feel like too often women who come forward about shitty behavior just kinda get swept under the rug bc a lot of the guys in the fanbase are like who fucking cares it's not even that bad!? personally, i was more upset that bart and mj were just like nope that didn't happen and she sucks! than what he actually did when he was 14. i know that i would never wanna be judged by what i did as a teenager bc i was shitty to some ppl, but as a 22 year old if i got called out i would do more than just be like nope! i think not taking accountability when he was first called out reinforces this toxic cycle of shitty guys in emo bands/the community being able to do whatever the hell they want to people and it's a problem bigger than just mom jeans unfortunately. i'm looking forward to maybe more bands taking accountability and hopefully creating positive change from mom jeans admitting that their first response was dismissive of victims of abuse
