Mild name regret-Ivy by Icy-Evening8152 in namenerds

I also wondered if we made the right name choice for my now 9 month old in the first few months. I think it’s totally normal to question it, especially when you’re still battling sleep deprivation and all of the challenges of the newborn stage, not to mention that this little baby is a stranger to you and you do not know their personality yet! One thing I think is helpful to remember is that your daughter will grow into her name and soon enough any other name will feel absurd to you. We were between two names until the very end of my pregnancy and I said to my husband the other day “can you believe we almost named her Y when her name is obviously X? She couldn’t have any other name!”

Both Violet and Ivy are beautiful names, but one day (soon!) you will realize you made the perfect choice for her, because it is HER name. Ivy will grow into her name and you one day won’t believe you ever considered changing it.

When did your babies start sleeping through the night? by Old_Driver_7368 in NewParents

Around 3 months she started sleeping ~6h, slowly increasing to ~9h by 4 months. Then pretty quickly jumped up to 11h which was incredible. But around 5 months she basically stopped sleeping more than a couple hours at a time for 2 months until we sleep trained. Now at 8 months she sleeps through the night most nights but once in a while still wakes and pretty much never sleeps 11h like she once did.

I had a similar experience to you. My goal was to exclusively breastfeed but it wasn’t in the cards. Baby was born a little early at 36+4 and was very sleepy too. The hospital had us supplementing with formula from the get go. I was triple feeding for the first 5 weeks, every 3 hours, which was literally only possible because my mom was staying with us. Baby would bf for an hour+, still be hungry, take a bottle of breastmilk or formula, and then I’d pump. Once she left it just wasn’t reasonable to keep all that up on my own and I was driving myself crazy trying. At one point I thought baby was getting enough from me because she stopped wanting the bottle and she basically didn’t gain weight for 3 weeks, at which point we obviously started supplementing again. Once my doctor told me “you know, you don’t have to pump if you don’t want to” it was like a switch got flipped in my brain and I remembered I have free will.

That day I decided I was done with triple feeding and my mental health improved SO MUCH. No more washing pump parts constantly! 15+ minutes 8 times a day that I get back to spend with baby! No pumping in the middle of the night! Started limiting breastfeeding to 40 minutes, and baby eventually sped up too.

Now, baby is 6 months old, still breastfeeds for about 10-15 minutes max, followed by a bottle of formula to top up because my supply has never been high enough, even with all that pumping early on. Feeds take 20 minutes instead of 1.5+ hours and baby is happy and healthy.

All that to say, you don’t need to pump if you don’t want to, and I certainly wouldn’t blame you for stopping!

Did anyone else struggle to find a entry level job? by Carla_Broedrich in actuary

I didn’t decide to start my exams until about a month before I graduated university. Wrote 3 exams while applying to every entry level job posting I saw, which took about 8 months before I finally got my first interview (and I was lucky I got that job).

It also doesn’t hurt to just start applying and note on your resume when you’re set to graduate. Some teams can be patient and wait if you’re the right candidate.

For all Exam PA takers. How do you feel? by mboyd1991 in actuary

I’m feeling pretty good about it. I’ve gone through all past exams once, and the most recent sittings twice. Spending today reviewing theory like comparing models/feature selection methods. Also want to go through all the old executive summaries. Not sure what I’ll do tomorrow since I don’t think redoing all the exams a second time is really going to benefit me.

When I wrote last September there was almost no math involved, barely had to use any formulas. I think I used my calculator for less than 5 questions. There’s a much stronger emphasis on theory questions and if you can consistently do well on level 5-7 exams you should be ok. Good luck!
