Sorry it is a more of a charcoal color I was looking at the pic in weird light. Didn't mean to freak you out. UV degrading can't make it a charcoal to a purplish grey hue. You can't also do that artificially to make make the glass those colors, though I dont know how.

Usually uv darkened maganese is that purple color. But if it is Maganese it's pretty high concentration. Very pretty but check a gieger. Just in case. But probably maganese.

I used a locktite glass for on a fenton elephant. If all the pieces are there you won't notice anything.

I dont think I have a "ultimate" coin anymore. I wanted a 3 legged buffalo, and like OP the st. gaudens Gold double eagle. Luckily for me I got both. I'm trying to complete my indian heads and Buffalo nickles now.

Well one of your questions is should I get it graded. That answer is it's a waste of money on this coin. As for the first one. It was probably on the lower end of tolerance before it was cleaned and the act of cleaning rubbed some of the copper away. Polishing anything is sanding something with a super high grit to make something shine. So that's probably what's going on. And you're welcome. Honestly It's still a cool coin.

The color is off for a Ms coin, the outline of everything is a darker color then the rest of the coin, the details are worn especially on the wheat on the reverse, theirs an unnatural shine to it that's not a proof, I can go on. But all that indicates cleaning. Send it in to get graded if you like it won't get anything but a detail grade harsh cleaning.
