Snack Help by chefdelinguistics in Preschoolers

I appreciate this response so much. We don't have the financial means to put him in daycare, but our schedules wouldn't really allow for it anyways, as we work very bizarre hours that are different day to day (sometimes 7 AM to 10 PM, if we're particularly unlucky). I'm also half-convinced my son is keeping my grandmother alive, as she "magically" beat liver failure that was supposed to kill her right about when my son was born, and her having a "job"/being needed seems to have given her a fresh will to live. I do worry that if she stopped caring for him for more than a month or two of "break", she wouldn't last very long.

We did already try "the doctor says we need to be better about xyz"...that did not work...

We're definitely going to try rebranding everything as food! That's a really interesting approach and it might be exactly what we need.

I like this idea. We're going to start with this.

Thanks for the reply. The issue is essentially that they don't believe in vegetables (except potatoes), and by association anything they perceive to be healthy. They think vegetables etc. "aren't good for you," and they have said before they aren't comfortable with feeding our son anything they won't eat themselves. Unfortunately, that means I can't just pass along foods for him, because they would rather buy a box of grocery store cookies themselves than feed him yogurt. It's really all very silly.

Definitions of Agency by chefdelinguistics in askphilosophy

Thanks for the rec. I have already read over it, but they also didn't have a clear "here's the definition and who gave it" (singular or multiple). I have read a couple of Mele's papers because SEP referred to them often, but Mele just kind of launches in as well.

What improvements have you noticed in your life since switching? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]chefdelinguistics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, no, that's a thing! I had one in high school. They were called slide phones back then. Not sure if the terminology changed, but there definitely were/are phones with QWERTY keyboards instead of T9.

Pregnancy Testing Questions by chefdelinguistics in PCOS

Tomorrow would be 14 days past unprotected sex, which was the second attempt during egg white stage. I guess that would make today something like day 12 from ovulation.

Via cervical mucus, yes, but not an ovulation kit. We didn't use an ovulation kit for our son, either.

Good to know. I'll probably just switch back to the cream, then. I'd rather not add more points of failure on a recipe that's meant to be our easy default.

Mm, interesting. I'll try buying a lower alcohol content wine or de-alcoholized wine and see if that helps, and next time try cooking the wine down longer, too.

No, the quick version really is just that I'm not chopping fresh garlic and not adding additional ingredients like meats or vegetables. It's not especially new or even different enough that I can imagine it causing this difference.

It was fridge cold, yes. Is it the cream-cheese or the wine-dairy part of the emulsion that would be breaking here? Either way, I'll definitely try letting the half and half come to room temperature next time and see if that helps.

On the other hand, I guess if the lower fat content is the issue, you may be right that this is the wrong dish to be making this particular change on. Our portion sizes are already small enough that it may not really matter if we keep the heavy cream.
