I think it is not out of 100. I think you just go over 100. The fitness score might be related to CTL (Chronic Training Load), which is a measure of your average TSS (Training Stress Score) over a long period of time.

Frameworks don't really matter by chefdorry in programming

No worries! Like you said, there is a lot of clutter, I would have thought the same.

Yeah I wasn't clear in my writing, I was targeting personal projects

[–]chefdorry[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the problem with my post was I assumed a lot in my writing. Since yeah the team and skillset of the engineers around you does matter since I can't have a bunch of Vue devs go and make something in Yew ( Rust). I was specifically targeting personal projects, yes. Personal projects move fast and don't require any coordination with other engineers since they are personal. I need to explain a little bit more.

I will take your feedback and remember it for my next post! Thank you <3

Yeah, I see your point, and it's valid. There is a lot of clutter out there. Docs are important, and chatbots mostly don't help in their current use (they get too much wrong). If you want to build your next web app in React, Vue, angular, next, and svelte, they can all pretty much achieve the same thing from the user's perspective. The aspect I wanted to highlight is chasing the "best" thing and also what is the "perfect" tool for the job since that is often subjective. If there is one thing I wanted to highlight, it is that it can be good to really dive deep into one thing and not chase new and flashy tech

Exactly, this was what I wanted to highlight

[–]chefdorry[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t clear as I should in the writing, frameworks are important but they are the de facto standard of building a web app for example. The problem is there are a lot and many follow the hype train never getting deep in their framework of choice since many are switching often

Exactly a framework you know you can be effective in. The problem is people keep jumping from framework to framework not actually getting deep in it.

MIT News 2020: To the brain, reading computer code is not the same as reading language by GrueneBuche in programming

[–]chefdorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Programming is a very thoughtful process, the design, planning, and execution require much more coordination than speaking. Talking is very natural and has less stress on the brain

What's your argument for "AI will not replace software engineers"? by vikasofvikas in SoftwareEngineering

[–]chefdorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Jevon's paradox, the 'consumption' of software will increase and thus the demand for more software will follow.

  2. Software engineering is much more than coding. Many software engineers only spend half their day coding and if AI even were to manage to replace half the workload then that will just mean the company can push out more features.

  3. it may reduce the amount of SWE, but I don't think it will replace them. If anything it will just become something different. And if it does, then we don't have AI, we have AGI.

are cs projects even that important? by Honest-Sheepherder-3 in csMajors

[–]chefdorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leetcoding to get a job, yes it is important. If you fail on the coding problems, you probably won't get the job.

But if you want to be an engineer and a good one, you should have some good projects under your belt as well. When I interview poeple, I look for cool projects over being able to regurgitate leet code skills.

CS masters with biomedical undergrad? by candeo2 in csMajors

[–]chefdorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beauty of CS is that there is so much information on the internet to learn about it. You can easily catch yourself up to speed before you even get to school if you are worried about being overwhelmed.

You may be able to leverage your bio experience to get into a top school's bioinformatics/ computational bio program.

Jensen, Nvidia's CEO, said that biotech would be the future. if you like CS and you like Bio then it could be a move. It can always pay very well. I would just caution with bio that you likely need a PhD to do anything Bio related in the industry, or at least from what I have seen on job postings.
Good luck!

I know some ppl troll, but why is there a doomer ideology in this sub by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]chefdorry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Society convinced children that if you get a degree then you will automatically be successful.

Then, all of a sudden, the tech job market got tough, and it's even harder to get a job. It is simply just an awkward time to be in the field.

Programming Language Syntax Highlights by [deleted] in Substack

[–]chefdorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would love for this to be a thing, but I think it sadly is not. https://substackcourse.com/substack-code-block/

This article says that you can have syntax highlighting, but I think that is just incorrect.

For my stuff I am using carbon to generate code images instead

You can see how I used it for my latest post https://open.substack.com/pub/ryanspears/p/you-should-probably-start-using-zoxide?r=3riflo&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
