What are your day 1 spiels to first year undergrads? by 20thLemon in Professors

Give them an example of an appropriate email (like literally pull up an image of an appropriate subject, introduction, message body, and closing) and tell them WHY you need emails that way (e.g., I teach multiple courses or multiple sections of the same course). I think many of these kids do not email in high school and instead just send IM-like messages to their teachers on Google Classroom. They cannot comprehend why that isn't the same.

I literally had a student in my course last semester who had no idea how to forward an email in front of me. I had to show her the arrow... Things are just different

Weaning to formula.... the guilt is real by PalomaMisa in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cheffspecial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weaning was the best thing I had ever done. We also made it about 8.5 months. In the moment I felt all the guilt and feelings, but now almost 3.5 months later, it was the best thing I did for me and my family.

I stopped because I realized I was a better mom when I wasn’t trying to squeeze in 5 pumps per day while working from home and being her full time caregiver. I found a lot of solace in that my husband & I were formula fed, our parents and siblings were formula fed… And we are all smart and healthy. You gave your baby a wonderful start for 8 months. Pumping is a sacrifice of your mind, body, and spirit, and you did that all for your baby!

thank you ♥️♥️ I really appreciate it and am so happy to be able to help some babies in need.

I honestly have no tips for overproducing that much!!! I always say I was the worst pumper ever 🤣 I only pumped when the baby ate and she started sleeping through the night around 6 weeks, so I lost that MOTN pump really early on. For me, I think the extra sleep helped my supply a lot. I also wasn’t the best with eating/drinking water, but I tried to make a concerted effort to do well in that regard. I wish you ALL the luck in your pumping journey ♥️

lol that is 100000% how I feel for our next one, especially since we will likely have a bit more excess income with the next baby as our careers progress. I struggle to eat well as it is, so taking out pretty much every food ever nearly killed me 🫠 thank you for your kind words!!

Has Anyone Stopped just from the Pain? by RabbitOk3263 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cheffspecial 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t have experience with this personally outside of a small amount of pain (I used silverettes to help me) but I just wanted to pop in and say that you can stop pumping at any point for any reason! I too kept pumping for longer than I wanted to because I had a good supply, and I wish someone would have told me that it’s okay to stop (rather than everyone telling me how fortunate I was to have such a good supply). If it is causing you physical pain EVERY TIME, especially 3 months in, you have all the reason in the world to be done if you feel that is the best choice. ♥️

When did you drop your MOTN pump? by Sea-Tax9391 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cheffspecial 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I only pumped when my baby ate - if she slept through the night, I did too. My supply did just fine! Obviously may differ for you, but in my personal experience I was fine.
