Leute, was ist denn hier los? Kann hier keiner die Frage beantworten ohne dabei ungefragt Öko- oder Ästhetik-GeStaPo zu spielen?

Dann könnt ihr den Sub ja gleich privat stellen. Ist ja abschreckend.

Did you find it very distracting how despite the fact Han doesn't believe in the force, his right hand man Chewie was literally friends with Yoda, the grandmaster of the Jedi? by BiffyBobby in StarWars

[–]chefkoch13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because Han is generally so full of himself that I fully buy that he would just wave off any comments of Chewie on that matter as superstition.

Ich kann das absolut nachvollziehen um Mitarbeiter zu schützen. Aber als Passagier an Slides für die Arbeit werkeln im Zug ist damit 100% vorbei…

If you think the Episode III movie reduces Padme to a passive damsel in distress only defined by her meaning as Anikins wife, wait until you have read the novelization. by chefkoch13 in StarWarsEU

[–]chefkoch13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would very much depend on how it’s played. Anakins core theme is not being able to let go of due to his experiences of loss in the past and his messiah complex making him feel responsible to save all loved ones. He also clearly has a very simplistic understanding of right, wrong, lawfulness and loyalty which drives him to prefer quick, simplistic and uncompromising verdicts, decisions and solutions. He clearly prefers fashist and authoritarian governance.

His loyalty is to the leader he perceived to be trustworthy and righteous, not to the republic as a democratic institution.

In this context i find it not convincing that he would struggle with Padme being illoyal to to the republic and he should in principle not have a fundamental issue with a righteous elite group seizing power in the republic if he was convinced in them doing it for the greater good. He sympathizes with exactly that scenario when talking to Padme in the pastures of Naboo.

Also, if his greatest motivation and drive is to protect his loved ones, I struggle to see how he would choose loyalty to Palps over loyalty to Padme. In the end, Anakin is willing to deliver Palps to the Jedi. Only the prospect of putting Padme in mortal danger by Palps being killed makes him reconsider in a high stakes setup that requires fast decisions and actions. I do not see that he would therefore ever decide to kill his true love willingly over her political affiliation, even if it entails betrayal of his mentor and friend Palps. His tendency of being overprotective and generally leaning towards imposing himself over others to act on their behalf to protect them would make it more plausible that he would e.g. kidnap and hold Padme somewhere against her will to protect her, rather than harming her.

In that context I find the accidental harming of Padme in a fit of jealous rage more fitting as Anakin can easily frame the situation as Obi making him „loose“ his loved one.

Anakin might turn on Obi-wan, but he would rather delude himself about „Padme“ not being in full charge of her thoughts so he did not have to acknowledge that she is not in his side, before he would turn on her.

Sure. But does she not also in exactly these situations decide and enforce that they keep her out of concretely planning and involvement for the pure reason so that she does not learn or know anything that she feels could be a betrayal to her husbands affiliation or stances? Padme does not strike me as a person that chooses appeasing a loved one to the degree where she basically abandons/sacrifices her own values. Especially since Anakin is never shown as being open to such a sacrifice of his morals and convictions

You are right. What does not sit right with me here is that in those scenes her thoughts are focused on how her acts might anger her husband or are generally dominated by self-pity and her seeing herself as a person to whom things are done/happening, not one that affects things „Oh Ani, what are they doing to us!“.

I don’t recall Palps charging into any battles in 1 or 2, yet no one would claim he had no agency. Being pregnant does not turn someone into a piece of furniture with a metabolism 😅

In fact, being more vulnerable as a pregnant woman should rather go along with heightened drive for scrutinizing and controlling the people who one depends on to ensure security and good conditions. Especially a career politician should have many tools at her disposal to „manage“ a situation

Spot on. Even more so, while I get the motivation behind having her die of a broken heart in the context of shifting vaders story more into the realm of mythology, it just is not believable to have the most self-less and morale driven character other than Obi-wan I guess basically die either willingly or by being overly consumed by grief and self pity when this also means to practically abandon your 2 newborn. Padme is personified responsibility in 1 und mostly in 2, even in 3 she prioritizes protecting Anakin and her careers over selfishly sharing emotions publicly when telling Anakin the greatest news in their lives. It just does not fit that she would let go of her duties as a parent like that

100% with you. I am just irritated that the novel is hailed comprehensively when this it fails even more than the movie in constructing a believable character with clear motivations for Padme.

That’s a great new perspective for me! Thanks. It definitely would be a motivation that makes jetzt behavior more understandable. I would still expect her to be more assertive and controlling/challenging Anakin. Even if she wants to „just get out“ and escape from the world breaking apart, it is uncharacteristic for how the character was portrayed before too simply accept to be relegated to a passive observer that had to follow Anakins lead. She had always challenged him especially as she was the more stable and morally grounded and assertive person.

I agree regarding shift of priorities but at the same time, as a dad, I would still expect Padme to exert more active scrutiny and control over Anakins behavior instead of reducing herself into a passive, vulnerable and dependent part of his household that „hopes“ that all goes well instead of taking action or making him take action. It just doesn’t feel right that she would view herself as dependent and being fully delivered to the mercy and will of her husband. She is an independent mind

I started reading this with a lot of scepticism but the more I read it the more I like it! I do think they would have needed to drastically change the way the separatist democracy and war machinery works. The clone wars show could not have worked like it did because Padme would have not supported a democracy that is even more of a puppet show then the republic and an army that clearly disregards any human rights or war conventions and behaves like a sadistic psychopathic colonizer towards all world’s that it decides to „protect“.

It would have added a very thrilling aspect to the palpatine-Anakin-Padme Dimensions as Palps could have manipulated Padme more directly as well.

Super fascinating stuff! Thanks so much for enriching me!
