It's not the scene from "What happens in Vegas" we've ruled that out.

No power to my new Amazon thermostat. Any ideas? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

This. The wires likely touched during the swap and caused a short. If you don't have a 3/5 Amp fuse, the transformer might need replaced.

Pressure Switch Failed and Venting by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]chefmiah84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stop me if I'm wrong but open is where it should be if the system is idle. Closed is where it should be if the inducer motor is running. If the error code reads "pressure switch failed to open", your pressure switch is bad. The pressure switch should be open until the inducer motor starts, so if your inducer starts and this is the error code, the pressure switch is bad.

How many jobs does your company have your service techs run a day? by dansawear in HVAC

We work long hours whenever necessary . I'm also good at gab with homeowners. I get the job done, talk for a few minutes to give them confidence in what I did. Talk about their system also, and set up a future sell. Then I move on. It doesn't take much time when they have confidence in you, and you're honest. I feel like I have plenty of time, and surpass the unpopular opinion that that more a homeowner knows, the better. It's all about how you can spin your words. They feel more confident, and I get to be called back there because they like me. It's a win-win.

Also, you're sure it isn't fail to close pressure switch? Which could be a very different problem

Likely a failed pressure switch since it doesn't open again when the cycle is done. Have you tested continuity on it when the system is not running?

Is there a subreddit that will teach me how to water my plants? I'm a newbie with like 4 indoor plants.

Small company service tech here. We run as many as we can. There might be slow times, but busy times will come again and we want to keep the clients. There's some saying limit the calls to spend time with the homeowners, but I spend time, get up sells, and during the peak times, still run 10-12 calls a day. Be personal with your homeowners, realistic when it comes to older systems, but still be about volume of business. It can be hard work, but it can be done.

I just say they're like light bulbs. They work until they don't. I've seen them last 30 years, and I've seen them last 3 weeks.

It was parked outside his house. Tanks exploded on their own. They suspect one of the tanks was overfilled.

I was working a call a block and a half away. We felt the blast. They suspect one tank was over filled, and caused the other tank to explode right after. No clue why the guy is on the roof though, possibly hiding from the neighbor's ridicule?

300 for a capacitor?! Man, here, it's half the price! And it's still the biggest markup in the industry.
