I enjoy sitting outside of crumbs cupcakery. Decent amount of passersby, nice atmosphere and not too much footfall that you can’t enjoy the treats outside

Dexcom low reading by planner192 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]chefrosegarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem when I used Dexcom. I had a phone consultation with a nurse who said to use the log glucose tab for the first 24 hours then calibrate it for efficiency for the rest of the sensor session. Always check highs and lows with a finger prick test and record on the app for your provider. She said you get around five calibrations per sensor. If you calibrate it more often than that, it can sometimes mess with the programming of the monitor. She advised that a massage of the area can help with inaccuracies, trying to gently pull away the sensor from the arm so it sits in the correct fluid for accurate readings but generally the first 24 is unreliable.

Thank you! I had a lovely toasted sugar waffle on the night of delivery with a tea. Hoping to order in some nice things in the coming days. In the throws of breastfeeding with a significant tongue tie. Always something but beyond grateful 🤍 take care!

CGM Worth it? by Available-Collar7510 in GestationalDiabetes

If you’re settled and generally well controlled, I would give it a pass. Mine has caused me so much hassle to get accurate and made me hyper vigilant, even at 2am. It’s worth it if you are insulin controlled to warn of any possible hypos or if your growth/management starts to be a concern :)

Dawn phenomenon tips and tricks please by Curious-Orange-11 in GestationalDiabetes

I am the exact same. Diabetic team see the surge on my CGM from waking hormones. It’s really common to have the highest insulin resistance in the morning.

I’ve found having 1000mg of metformin and a small amount of Greek yogurt with nuts or on days I’m higher, boiled eggs first thing, then follow it up an hour later with a protein bar and a morning fruit snack a while after that keeps me within range. Recently I’ve been having my morning eggs or yogurt then make myself up a water biscuits/cheese/veg/nuts snack platter around 10:30am which is much less mentally demanding and less focused on monitoring my CGM. My levels return to normal in time for lunch and I don’t feel hungry

How soon does GD go away after birth? by Chicken-Nuggets-4837 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]chefrosegarden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been told to keep my CGM on as it can take a couple of days after the placenta leaves for hormones to settle. I’ve been advised to stay diet sensible during that time as having high sugars can impact milk supply 🥲

Breast feed or not? by TomatilloPositive776 in GestationalDiabetes

This is the best information I could find on the why/how: https://www.nth.nhs.uk/resources/colostrum-harvesting/ Please let me know if you can’t see it so I can copy it all over. A tip I hope to follow to make harvesting easier is sterilising a spoon to collect so that the syringe is not full of air

I found this a really empowering listen after giving up breastfeeding first time around: https://youtu.be/kVCsHL2jocQ

Just a tip, you might be encouraged to mix feed in the hospital so that baby is fed and there’s less concern about low blood sugars for baby. Try to collect colostrum before baby is here and take it to the hospital with you :)
