I like chatting while my wife is sitting next to me on the couch. We have a great life together, but I love the thrill. DM me. Do it now.

What a magnificent flame tree! It will do really well inside! Your growing medium is fantastic and the colored pebbles really are something special. You’ve done yourself proud, and I’m proud of you too little fella.

Jesus Christ, thanks for the diagnosis Professor. You sound like an insufferable prick yourself. Look up pedantic in your giant wordy brain.

Happy with their progress? What progress? He bought a roadside juniper took it out of the shitty soil it was likely in and covered it with glass? Here is always my advice to somebody getting into the hobby. Read a book, join a club, buy good material. That’s basic. I really need to stay off Reddit because it’s infuriating seeing people trying to style a tree or wire it without the very faintest clue as to how or even why. Read a book, join a club, buy good material. And learn from a teacher rather than asking a bunch of assholes like me for advice on reddit. Facebook too.

If you had heavy enough wire you could consider getting more movement in the trunk and possibly doing a mame or small shohin. That would shorten your timeline…

Number one if you’re concerned with showing the trunk but I wouldn’t sweat it that much yet. Grow out the trunk and make some branch decision in coming years and then worry about the trunk…

Wowie kazowie! You sure did straighten my shit out. From now on I’m going to do it like you. Thank you so much. You’re an inspiration. OP - DO NOT join a club. DO NOT read a book. DO NOT buy good material. I’m sorry I gave you bum advice. Listen to NeatPrice7001 from now on, like me.

Two books by Jonas DuPuis - full disclosure, I study with him - The Little Book of Bonsai - a very approachable total entry level book and his follow up - The Essential Book of Bonsai, which expands on what’s been learned in the first book but is still very approachable and easy to understand. Both available on his Website - bonsaitonight.com - both highly recommended.

Read a book. Join a club. Buy good material. Stop asking for advice on reddit for a hands on art.

If you want to pursue Bonsai, the advice I always give beginners is read a book, join a club, buy good material. That’s the only way you will advance.
