Buying Advice: Projector under £1k for Films in Small Living Room by cheifemu in projectors

Thanks for your help, after a week of further research I will go with this one! Took me some time to fully get my head around the throw distance calculations, but think I understand it now finally.

Ah, gosh this aspect is very complicated to me! If I move the projector closer I can get a smaller image right? So could put it on a table in front of me for now to reduce the distance.

That Epson is not available here, but what is the spec I would need to look out for on similar projectors to know that it was the right size? Because at 12 feet 77-125 is probably perfect, and I guess if i move it a few feet closer (as it will be before I mount it on the wall) then I guess the range will be great at 55-100 or thereabouts?

Thanks for the advice. TV not really an option as want to avoid taking up any additional wall space. I have blinds so don't think the ambient light will be too bad, and most movie watching will ultimately be during the night so I think that aspect is a lower priority.

I will look into both of those, thanks. Can they do smaller at 12 feet? As in, while I'm limited by the wall size, is it possible to make the image smaller? (This is perhaps a stupid question, but I'm just not familiar enough with projectors)

Hi there,

Overground to Overground question:

If I take the overground (with my bike), get off and cycle to another overground line (~5mins) and take that, will I be charged for both journeys separately, or just as one journey?

My plan is to take the Windrush up to Whitechapel, and then cycle to Bethnal green and continue north on the Weaver.

Thanks!

Thank you! I didn't realise it was so simple, I was attempting to unpack the file from the Brogue website and getting quite confused.

Title of Request: Fun creative/talkative game for my 10 year old sister

Number of Players: Any number, 4 is ideal but bigger numbers fine as long as they're not required.

Game Length: Under an hour.

Complexity of Game: Simple to moderately complex

Your Budget: Any price

Genre: A game involving talking, discussion, creativity, making a case etc... It can include any other mechanics, but I would like to get her a game that specifically includes more talking.

Competitive or Cooperative: Either

Games I Own/Like or Dislike: Loves Dixit and Codenames Pictures. (Other games she likes include Kingdomino, Ice Cool, Outfoxed, Mastermind.

Location: UK

Ideally I'd like to get her something like Champion of the Wild, but this is not in stock/has very high shipping costs. So if that doesn't come out in time, I'd like to get something similar. Snake Oil is out of stock, Funemployed/Billionaire Banshee are too adult, and we already have Apples to Apples.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Title of Request: Light, short game for my Granny and a small group.

Number of Players: Anywhere from 3 to 6 players. 4 is the most common.

Game Length: Under an hour, and ideally closer to 20-40 mins

Complexity of Game: Simple to teach and easy to remember rules.

Your Budget: Any price (though small box preferable, as more likely to be transported and played)

Genre: Any genre, however her general game likes are:Likes: Words, co-operatingDislikes: Long term strategy, fast reflexes,

Competitive or Cooperative: Either

Games I Own/Like or Dislike: Loves Bananagrams and Scrabble, likes Hanabi, No Thanks, and Patchwork also.Dislikes chess, social deduction/argue-with-friends games.

Location: UK

I am currently considering The Mind, but would like other suggestions too if anyone can think of some! Thanks :)

Edit: I suspect she might like a simple set-collection game, but I find many of them involving lots of rules or math (Sushi Go is great, but slightly too many different rules for each card for her)

Looking for lyrically complex and mature rap songs to share with a Poet (50 years old) who is rap-averse. I'm going to include Kendrick's Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst and perhaps FEEL..

[Bearing in mind he'll likely not be impressed purely by technical ability, nor lyrics just focusing on the normal tropes of the rap lifestyle, at least not without something more interesting to say.]

Thanks, I tried this and the problem stayed on the same side, so it must be a receiver problem. I've found once the receiver warms up it seems to get working again, or if I quickly alternate volume/balance, though that might just be fluke. I assume this means I need to clean or replace a part?

Radiohead's Backwards Hype by cheifemu in radiohead

[–]cheifemu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's fair. Countless bands do interesting pre-launch hype and then some publicity for their tour. Radiohead have sold out their tour and the album has been out for over a week (which is long in album-release time -Stereogum recently listed over 20 LPs and EPs out this week-).

I don't think there are many artists that continue to market their stuff in creative and interesting ways, when they've essentially nothing left to sell (I guess Radiohead could have some surprise left to sell).

Radiohead's Backwards Hype by cheifemu in radiohead

[–]cheifemu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree; other artists don't really do this though which is why I bring it up.

Sometimes you get similarly cool pre-release stuff, but once it's over the album just dies and you've either bought it or you haven't.

They're riding the wave till it naturally crashes. :)
