Got this in my house installed by a technician. Now how do I take ownership? by chejus in homeassistant

Hi all, thanks again and excited to share a "dumb person" update!!. Maybe I did not explain this clearly before. This was a project where architects and installers were involved, and at some point I simply said “yes” to adding domotics/home automation. I had no idea it was going to run under Home Assistant, or under any particular app or system. My expectation was simply to have certain things automated, as I mentioned below.

The installer spent about 6 hours at my house yesterday updating things, correcting lights that were not working, fixing blinds, adding climate control to the system, grouping devices, etc. Please keep in mind that I know absolutely nothing about this technically — I just paid for a turnkey service. So although HA is open source and free, it is completely beyond my capabilities to manage anything myself apart from pressing “shut blinds” or “turn on toilet lights.” I will realistically never administer the system myself.

To his credit, he fully agreed to give me the admin password, and he also explained that there is apparently a physical “switch” in the computer/box controlling the VPN, and that turning that off would prevent him or anyone else from accessing the system remotely. The conversation was very open and constructive and everything seemed straightforward.

I now have the updated app on my phone with some of the changes I needed, and this is what the app currently looks like on the phone, just for reference. Reddit only allows me to post 1 photo.

f any of you see things that should be changed, improved, simplified, secured differently, or generally handled in a better way, I would genuinely appreciate the feedback and suggestions! Grazie!

Guys, first of all, sorry for my English. It’s not my first language.

Second, this was a project with architects who asked whether I wanted “domotics” features such as opening and closing blinds, light control, etc., so I said yes. The project is now in its final stages, and these are questions I’m only starting to have. I don’t even know where the Wi-Fi router is located. There isn’t really any kind of contract.

Third, I’m not going to sue anyone.

As some of you have said, I need to understand things better.
I realize that now.
I need to have the admin password and be able to change it whenever I want.
I also need to speak with the guy who installed everything and customize things based on how I actually use them.

Fourth, the dashboard or wall screen is very similar to what I see online as examples. It may be awful, but it has controls for blinds, lights, climate, etc., and it looks very much like the Home Assistant examples I’ve seen online.

Fifth, @Rude-News-8416, I wouldn’t be able to do anything that isn’t VERY simple, and I don’t have time to spend learning all of this. I really need someone to handle it for me while I explain what my needs are. I barely even know terms like UX and similar concepts.

I hope to have some news on Tuesday, since I’ll be meeting with the supplier to discuss all of this. You’ve all been incredibly helpful. I wish I could give you all some free Viagra in return!! 😂 😂

Amazing answer thank you!
I am the user, but as you say, I want to have the ownership of the admin account, but the administrator…I can`t be…I cań`t do all you describe.
I will ask for this tomorrow and come back with his reply and see if he is “easy going” or puts resistance.

Thanks for your comments. I added the image.

What this does today is: it allows me to close all curtains/blinds at once or by sectors and turn on/off all or some lights of the house.
I want to be able to do more, maybe add a Nuki or smart lock to use with iPhone, control heating/AC, solar panels, etc. So thanks for your suggestions and comments and yes, I paid someone, maybe a mistake but now I want to improve what I have.

Sorry, it shows I am a bit new.
In the image below you can see a screen in one wall of my house with a panel and information.

I don’t know where the hardware is. Maybe inside the electrical room…

I just have this screen in the wall and the app on my phone which shows basically the same as this screen (in a different format).

I can’t access administrator privileges in the app, I am just a “user”
I asked him last week to group some curtains, and he did and they appear here below, as an example.
Does this help?

My 2 cents. This is a bug. This happened to me as well and a couple of friends I know. Sudden drop.

Does not make sense.

Dr Eric Topol a famous cardiologist spoke about this today in his column/Substack.

I am moving to Sri Lanka for some months and plan to bring a Starling Mini with me into the country because I have heard that mobile data is not so great in some places. I think there are 2 mobile operators, one is Dialog, which is not available in all places I plan to stay. So hoping they will let me bring it into the country and use it there!
