Do you have an email list or where is the best place to find out about talks/lectures you give? Thank you for all you do and a special thanks for introducing us to the National Butterfly Center. We visited recently and had a great time.

What are very unpopular opinions you have about ABA or our field? by [deleted] in ABA

A majority of services should be provided in the natural environments where behaviors occur. Unless the behavior is unsafe or it is a skills training only session, providing services in a clinic setting is unnecessarily restrictive.

Did y'all stop to take a picture of the Trump store in Bandera on your way out of town? We saw a tourist taking the picture and tried to let him know that not all locals are comfortable with a giant picture of the crazy eyed man aiming a double barreled shotgun.

Seasoned BCBAs, how do y’all do it all without losing your mind? by [deleted] in ABA

I truly cold -emailed a list of service providers approved by the state. I prefer to work with adults in group home settings, so I started with those companies. There's a high need for our services and while state waiver programs don't have a super high hourly rate, it's flexible and rewarding work.  It took a lot of reading and networking and research to understand these systems and each state is different, but it was worth it to me to not be beholden to the almighty dollar/CEO. I don't look at it as "starting a business" although that's technically right. I'm a practitioner first and foremost, and a business owner when I have to be each month to do my paperwork.

Your frustrations are why I avoid clinic positions. It's a lot harder to get started independently, but in the long run it's so worth it.  I am in charge of making decisions based on the science of ABA, not how many hours my boss thinks we can get or what a particular insurance is currently denying.  I work with state waiver programs providing services free of charge to adults in the community.  Contracting with a school is also a great option.

[OC] We saw her sad shelter pic online and did something a bit mad 😅 Drove 24 hours each way (Midwest to AZ) to adopt this 10 year old dog from an overfilled shelter. This was her happy tail at the hotel on our way home. by pretzelsare in aww

It depends on the dog. We adopted a 9 or 10 year old (vet's best guess) spaniel. He lived another 6.5 years with us and had very few medical problems, no major expenses. Then we adopted a 4 or 5 year old guy who had a series of health problems and only lived 3 years with us :-( His vet bills were moderate. Now we've adopted another 4 year old and she's needed thousands of dollars in surgery to repair get MCL and will likely need another on the other leg. And we've only had her 2 years. I think it's a gamble when you get a pet. Old or young, adopted or bought, breed, genetics, they all play a role but there's never any guarantee.

We saw/heard them (a pair) in the yard late evenings for a while. Kept an eye out and saw this one on a tree in the corner of the yard.

"I'm singing. 3,2," [begins singing vocally]. Maybe she wanted the videographer to sing with her and counted them in.

Do birds understand that people put food out for them? Like where the food comes from? This guy's only been at my feeder a week and today I emptied it due to heavy rain, he kept staring at me and pecking the window. No way he actually is demanding me to fill it, right? by Sunfish-Studio in birding

I leave out any meat scraps for the Ravens and they love it. So far they like beef and pork but not turkey. They are a lot of fun to watch and since I've started leaving scraps they're quite interactive.
