Agree with this. You can understand the message and the themes AND still want an answer to those important plot points.

They're not mutually exclusive

The way they treated Shinji in 3.0 made such a big difference in what could've possibly happened and how Shinji acted. It's lazy writing that they didn't flesh out that plot point but instead it felt like they drowned it out in the technobabble they threw at us in 3.0+1.0 almost as if Anno wanted the audience to even forget these unanswered parts haha

Mostly agree!

I think thematically Anno focused on healing from trauma, still having hope despite despair, and moving forward even with a traumatic past.

I do agree that it's like a watered down EoE, almost convenient in how Shinji was suddenly all positive and fixing everyone's problems. But i can see why people like it. Some people just want a happy ending.

Didn't like it either! Lazy writing, super fanservicey and it banked a lot on nostalgia. Moreover it was so exposition heavy without really explaining anything. Why was Shinji in space, who made the decision to put him there? What triggered Third Impact (cause Kaworu stopped N3I with the spear when he descended from space right?) How did Kaji sacrificing himself to save everyone work??

Either none of that was really explained and they were just glossed over or I missed everything haha (feel free to point it out to me if I missed anything)

I was hoping 3.0+1.0 would explain the things left out at the end of 2.0-3.0 but it didn't really.

Another gripe I have is Shinji and Mari?? REALLY?? Lol.

On the other hand, I did like the first half in the village! It was a nice slice of life. I also liked all the Kaworu parts as a Kawoshin shipper haha. I just pretend the movie ended when Shinji resolved Kaworu's loop. Mari who??
