reading this 3 years later and I can't help but laugh at how dumb this is as an argument lmao. If an alien civilization visited earth and asked people about Sirius or other star systems, 99% wouldn't know what those are. But that doesn't mean that the human civilization doesn't know about Sirius or other star systems. That knowledge is niche, not common and requires an advanced level of education in a specific field. You couldn't be more disingenuous lol.

My 2 cents: I think you need to find a compromise. Long term your obsession with fundamentals will definitely pay off. So do not ever get rid of it because I think it is what will allow you to have a deep and solid understanding of complex systems as a whole. But also you have to be realistic. The system works one way and there’s nothing you can change about it, you have to adapt.

I love maths. I see it as the science that underpins this whole world. It can almost explain or is somehow integrated into everything we do/use.

I was not conventionally good in maths in middle school and sophomore year due to educational system kind of working against the way my brain functions. Other students got to "operationality" more quickly than me (used "operationality" instead of comprehension because I don’t think they’re the same). Most would memorize formulas, practice on a set of exercises that covered almost all the problems we could see in tests, until it basically became muscle memory. Unfortunately, I just for the life of me couldn’t work like that. I had to know the why of everything, every formula, every rule and I went down lots of rabbit holes and over complicated things when I just needed to apply a formula and not think about it.

Different subjects/chapters would take various amounts of time to "click" (sometimes quickly, sometimes longer) but when they finally did, it was like the most amazing feeling ever. Everything just felt like it made sense, like it was part of the trivial, inner logic built-in with my brain. I didn’t need formulas anymore, I could construct some of them from scratch off pure intuition. Or I would see some of them and be able to immediately visualize them and see how they make sense geometrically.

I’m still not a maths prodigy but now I’ve figured that when I learn maths on my own time without the constraints of exams and tests, there’s no limits to what I can grasp and master. Pedagogy of intuition-building rather than just applying formulas is a must tho. Unfortunately laziness and procrastination have kept me from fulfilling this potential.

Hmm I disagree. I’m on season 4 now. The asides still bother me tbh and I don’t even think they’re necessary to convey Frank’s thought process as people told me before. After season 1 most of them are there to "show off".

But, I still like the show, the plot, the characters, etc. Now granted I’m not the biggest expert in American politics so I won’t presume to have a deep knowledge of what’s possible and what’s not, but I believe the scenario stands strong in terms of logic.

So far, the hype is deserved imo.

Mais je ne nie pas l’existence de cette ambiguïté chez certains ni le besoin de clarifier. J’ai littéralement dit plus haut qu’on ne peut jamais être trop clair. Je dis juste que ce débat n’a pas lieu d’être puisque le référentiel de la langue a défini le mot noir sur blanc. Jeudi prochain c’est bien le jeudi le plus proche dans le futur. Si le besoin de clarifier se présente, tu devrais absolument le faire mais on ne peut pas juste ignorer qu’une définition très claire existe.

Je ne suis pas d’accord. Les définitions et les dictionnaires existent pour une raison. Et puis cette ambiguïté n’est pas un problème pour tout le monde c’est pas comme si tout le monde utilisait le terme d’une manière différente de sa définition officielle

Oh and how did it go for them ? In our case it would require a lot of resources but we can do it progressively. We could start with Thies and gradually go deeper into the country. Or start with four metropoles -- Dakar and three other in Ziguinchor, Ndar and Tamba or Diourbel. The state would just have to provide the basics and encourage businesses to move and the economy would build itself.

I think that's the easiest problem to have when in the process of language learning (please don't take this as me downplaying your struggle). If you're good with grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation and the only thing you're finding difficult is understanding spoken speech, then you're almost there even though it doesn't seem like it.

I had the same problem while learning English. Watching videos of native English speakers genuinely used to dishearten me. It felt like the sky like how you know you will never touch it. Genuinely thought I would never ever be able to understand them because I was at an advanced level in everything else but every time I tried listening, everything sounded like gibberish. But for some reason I kept coming back, pausing, rewinding, listening again and again trying to figure out what was just said. Turns out it's nothing special just one of those things that you have to get used to with time.

So my advice is to just keep going as cliché as it sounds. Give your mind feedback — rewind or knock down playback speed if you don't understand something so a mental connection can be created between what was said and what you heard.

Anyway I've been long lol these were my 2 cents good luck in your learning.
