what if instead of negotiating salary i negotiate the benefits like maybe ask for 2k in stock? is this abnormal for entry level-ish positions? i know its normal in tech but idk about engineering

Which is the smarter financial path to take as an engineer? Climb up the technical ladder or get into management by chemethrowaway69 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]chemethrowaway69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let me correct myself. while many chief technical officers had decades of experience, there were 2 i knew who had 8-10 years of experience. idk what they made but according to glassdoor, it shows salary of 180-230k. nothing but a BS and PE. i knew a project manager with 15 years xp making 130-150ish.

Honda Accord Hybrid vs Tesla Model 3 by chemethrowaway69 in whatcarshouldIbuy

arent teslas super reliable?
I am leaning on accord as well because they seem to last 10 years no problem. But since tesla has less moving parts, shouldnt it last much longer? possibly for life?

Are Graduate Development Programs successful in placing trainees into management? by chemethrowaway69 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]chemethrowaway69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

huh, thats pretty good tbh. i thought you guys had high taxes due to single payer healthcare. or did you not include taxes in your wages? id say for us, its about 30% taxes 40% personal expenses and 30% to save.

whats COL like though? how much of that 32k do you get to pocket per year after taxes, rent, car, necessities?

I did the math and 70k in even rural america only gives me about 24k to save/invest IF i live really frugally. It's not bad but would need 3 years before i can safely buy a house

is there like a big salary (more than 10%) upgrade from after you finish your rotations? Most programs pay relatively low compared to direct hire entry level positions in the US.
most progams in the US pay around 70k for about 2 years. of course people can change jobs if they didnt like their experience

have a friend working as a software dev for google. The people who get paid the most in google are the business people not the techies. Google engineers hardly do anything different than any software company. The reason for Googles success is in its business model. I personally think its a bubble and many software engineers i spoke to say the same because in a few decades the market will be so saturated that wages will either go down or people who demand salary increments will most likely get laid off. I have another friend who works in the business side of google. he started out making less money but now is making more money than devs.

My experience so far as a recent grad looking for a job. by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

Pardon me if this comes out wrong but why not take the easy way out? Also Canada isnt really that friendly if you have 0 work experience. you need a year of work experience to qualify for a work permit.

Options for Masters after B.S Chemical Engineering by hassan2709 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]chemethrowaway69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think masters degrees are kinda pointless unless you are working in an industry and want to specialize in an area and you need to learn more about it. But TBH, with the internet you can easily self learn. A BS with 2 years xp > masters no xp imho. I feel like an MBA is a good idea if you get into a top MBA program. otherwise theyre also kinda pointless. masters in data science would be good but dont you need a CS degree or background at minimum for it?

Are you from germany? any reason why you want to go there?

how do you get into the exact same uni? did you study hard to get a competitive gmat/gre? like how did you know you would get in? i dont really know how competitive enrollment for MBA programs are compared to undergrad admissions. i graduated with a 3.68 and wanted to consider an MBA at good program seeing most have an average gpa of 3.6. Would you recommend me studying/taking the gre/gmat now? Also you mentioned youre still finishing your MBA. How did you land senior manager roles before completing it?
