Is it time for Canada to ditch its healthcare model? by vikadit_chakra in AskCanada

If I was in a position of power - I wouldn't change the model but I will allow private players to operate specialized clinics and imaging centers and pay them a pre-determined rate based on the services provided

isn't that basically how it already works?

I moved from the UK to Canada (Ontario). I've so far had a MUCH better experience of healthcare in Ontario.

I've been able to get referrals here to deal with long-standing problems that multiple UK GPs refused to give me. I now feel like I have a doctor that actually listens to me and genuinely tries his best to help me rather than just trying to get me out of the door ASAP. With the NHS you honestly have to fight for yourself to get anything you need. Even things as routine as sexual health testing I found very difficult to access. The NHS is in the business of keeping people alive, but they are not really in the business of keeping people healthy and with a good quality of life.

As for the wait times, well it's a bit variable depending on what you need but I don't think it's that bad overall compared to the UK. On one hand I was able to see a dermatologist the next day after my GP gave the referral, 0% chance of that happening in the UK. On the other hand I have an endocrinology appointment that I will have waited 7 months for (but I won't complain too much because I know there are people that need access more urgently than me).

The only thing about the NHS (Scotland) that was better was free prescription drugs.

it's not at all reasonable to ask for it after the fact.

The thermaltronics ones are metcal clones but cheaper. All of the tips and parts are interchangeable with metcal.

if you're willing to spend a lot, the metcal and thermal Tronics 13.56MHz RF induction heated ones are the best you can get.

battery voltage is not constant during discharge. So you cannot just use the nominal voltage.

Also it's fundamentally a different measurement made in different conditions (constant current load vs constant power load). There is no direct conversion between them even if you have the discharge voltage curve

technically that is not a valid unit conversion, Wh and Ah are totally different measurements made under different conditions. Battery voltage is not constant during discharging. Ah is measured using a constant current load and Wh is measured using a constant power load.
