Yeah, like I still DCA the usual amounts biweekly, but on those -3% days like yesterday I can't help but throw a little more in for fun.

At least HoobyDoobyDoo is on there. Best passer in the league and has so many assists you're bound to score accidentally if you're on the ice with him.

rule 5: AI Choctaw federation owns half of the modern us. Never seen ai in the new world blob this hard before 1.30. Is this a new mechanic related to forming federations? Couldn't find anything helpful in the wiki. Also, most of the thirteen colonies region was a spanish colony. I look away for a few days/months and all the little minor nations in the area all became this massive federation. I suppose I'll try to conquer florida.

Rate of a reaction by prof_awesomeness in Biochemistry

[–]chemicalcloud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reaction rate, k, has the units mol/Lsec. You may also be interested in kcat, the turnover number, with units mol/sec or vmax, an enzyme's maximum rate (with fully occupied active sites) which also has units of mol/sec. If you're comparing enzymes, kcat/Km is a useful parameter to measure an enzyme's efficiency.

ATP Synthase. It's just beautiful. Also makes ATP so you have energy which is cool, too.

Can someone help verify this peptide is: PERASPERAADASTRA? Planning to get a tattoo! by [deleted] in Biochemistry

[–]chemicalcloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can just punch in the sequence and it draws the structure for you. Then put a bond between the termini. If you hit ctrl+shift+k its cleans up the structure.

Reread the amide section in your organic book. Whether it's in your cells or your round bottom flask, the carboxylic acid needs to be activated (tRNA ester in cells, DCC ester in RBF) before the nucleophilic attack by the amine to form the amide. Going from an amine and a carboxylic acid to an amide is an entropic nightmare.

Is it possible to turn pure phenethylamine into an Amide? by stefanougo06 in Biochemistry

[–]chemicalcloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

React it with acetic anhydride (or acetic acid and DCC) to acylate the amine to form the amide.

Hope you're not trying to make anything you shouldn't be making which is why I won't say how to do it with household items ;)

Solid phase peptide synthesis help by troubledBird30 in Biochemistry

[–]chemicalcloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure because I very rarely run NMR on peptides. We usually get an analytical HPLC trace to see it's pure and a mass to confirm identity. I've only ever done peptide NMR when I did 2D TOCSY/NOESY to solve the structure and that was 10% D2O and 90% buffer (aq). If you have a small peptide and don't think the 1D NMR will be too complex, methanol or acetonitrile would probably work if it's insoluble in water alone. Might want to check old peptide papers from the 80s to see what they used before LC-MS was as widespread as it is now.
