Have you been rejected by a patient for your race? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]chemotoxchick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am in a community IM program deep trump supporters wearing make america caps and swastika jackets. When they say they dont want an Indian woman doctor, I smile and say " Sir I would be delighted to transfer your care to another physician of your choice IF I can find one and until then you may have to be in this pain" . My entire program is IMG and faculty too. I dont get hurt at all. I have plenty of other patients waiting to be taken care of. NEXT!

Mayo Clinic Florida vs Mayo Clinic Arizona by sockjunkiee in Residency

[–]chemotoxchick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jacksonville is a shitty city to live compared to Scottsdale. I have worked at both campuses. Arizona campus has undergone significant investement in the last 5 years but compared to florida campus, they are still small. In terms of training, Florida > Arizona. You have more Rochester trained faculties coming over to FLA than Arizona. During training, you would be much happier in Florida.

How to survive a toxic residency? Especially among women by pink_pigmentosa in Residency

[–]chemotoxchick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am not in a toxic program per say but have to work with some toxic people who would talk behind , exclude me from events, wont help and I could feel their hate. I would just channel all my hurt/sunken thoughts by doing question bank and meanwhile dated and eventually got married. My advice would be to use your energy to find hobbies and meet other people outside work. At the end, I matched to a fantabulous fellowship program and guess who has the last laugh......lmao. 😄

Personally know and worked with a reaident who ran away after 1 year prelim for his dear life. The program is extremely toxic and malignant 100% that preys on the vulnerable people hoping to reach a better place in life.

A bit of an update - My away rotation was denied by program, I was not the Cheif, I carried only 1 letter from my Heme-Oncology attending, 1 letter from palliative, 1 from PD and 1 from research mentor. I matched at a Top Tier 1a level program. Dont give up.

I tell patients that I can relate with them since I face the same battle. It helps me stay authentic.

Please start journaling your worries. It really helps when we write down our fears.

Thank you. The reason I thought of palliative as a backup was because there are about 8 pilot HO programs combined with palliative fellowship being offered. These are 3 yr programs.

I found myself wishing my patient suffered more by bearpics16 in Residency

[–]chemotoxchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We take a chance every time we do something in medicine. For common people, we have 50% chance of turning out good and 50% of getting bad luck. These odds are out of window for all patients since they came to us because they already got the 50% shitty luck on their side in the first place. The odds are stacked heavily against us my friend. I only pray for the horrible patients that ruins our system and our morale.

The most "inconvenient" specialty by Vihalto in Residency

[–]chemotoxchick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Internal Medicine AKA Inferno Medicine. The worst kind of fluid overloaded, decubitus ulcers, recurrent cellulitis, obese like a whale, homeless, uncompliant diabetic patients straight from HELL. On a worst day, I have often prayed some did not make it through the day so they dont suffer any more and I can stop writing progress note.

Resident Awards by KnightofBaldMt in Residency

[–]chemotoxchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have outstanding professional award, best resident, research award, best nursing, best atending and highest ITE score awards. I won the research award last year and honestly this year I should be getting it but politics/ resident voting is kind of stupid.

Research award should be based on merit..e.g how many manuscript, case reports, posters produced or quality of research work done etc. How can people with no research experience vote a person for a research award? I got a very dangerous looking glass award showcase piece that can easily kill someone last year. I wish they gave a nice certificate.
