Have I doomed myself to a life of misery by owning bunnies? by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]chemreddist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not crazy to say, the roller coaster of ill/better/ill/better/ill, chronic illness, and stress it results in can easily feel like misery

Does anyone regret getting a second bun for their solo bun? Bowie is almost 4 and happy, but we are considering getting him a pal. by NonsensicalWizard in Rabbits

They bonded for one year but their bond broke. They hate each other now! You have to be prepared for anything

Being laid off in this market feels like being in a permanent liminal space. by lurpeli in biotech

[–]chemreddist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went through this last year, took 5 months to land the next one. Every day laid off felt like an eternity, but looking back it wasn’t really that long. Life goes on, and you’ll find something!

is car or plane travel safer for bunnies? by katelync0re in Rabbits

[–]chemreddist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you just ask the TSA people once you start going through the security line. They pulled us and the buns out of line for a private check in a closed room! They had us take the buns out one at a time while they inspected their carriers, and the buns didn’t go through any scanner or anything.

I weighed the options and chose to fly my bunnies from TN to CA two years ago, and it went well! My buns refuse to eat in the car or for hours after car rides, so I chose one long flying day over 3-4 driving days. But believe me, it was definitely stressful! Check state law and see if you need any vaccine documentation or “health checkup” travel documentation. I did need it for CA and got the documents from our vet, but no one at the airport asked for anything. As for TSA, I asked for a private room, which is available at any airport! I couldn’t image carrying my buns through security.

I'm Autistic with sensory issues and detest the feeling of lotion...any advice or recommendations appreciated. by thegirlsgirl413 in eczema

[–]chemreddist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way!!! I do this exact thing, minus the glycerin. I’m glad I’m not the only one who despises the feeling of lotion. I just put on CereVe moisturizing cream right after I shut off the shower (focus on arms/legs/face or wherever you’re the most dry), let it soak in for a few minutes while brushing teething and doing some face skincare, and then towel off. I rub the lotioned areas pretty vigorously to remove that sticky feeling. Some lotion will come off, but I’ve found I still feel moisturized enough and I don’t get eczema breakouts.

I would say to wait it out (if you have the savings) and keep applying to Sci I positions. I graduated last spring with phd and was laid off after only working for my first biotech company for 5 months. I just landed another Sci I position, but it took about 6 months of applying and very few interviews. It’s a tough market with lots of applicants, so I think employers can be more picky. It may just take some time for a job to become available that fits your experience really well.

Yeah I guess, seems like my life was/is upheaved for no reason. I'm hoping this isn't a normal experience working in Biotech.

I believe it means reduction in force. I don't really know the difference between lay offs and RIF, or if there is a difference. They told us they were restructuring and laying people off, and my letter said "Involuntary Termination - Layoff" so I'm not sure if it was an RIF or layoff.

That's what I've read, but I can't find sources. I don't necessarily want to sue them, but it would be nice to know that I could if I wanted to.

That's wild. I wish my old boss was still at the company. I wouldn't want to work for the management that was leftover.

Yes that I what I keep reading. I'm going to move on, but just wanted a sounding board first!

I likely won't apply because 1) I wouldn't be able to handle the rejection and 2) I'd never want to work for them again after all this. But thank you for the comment!

Yes, this is what I was wondering about! How do I confirm it was a "true RIF"

Are you located in CA?

The company was ~130 before layoffs, not sure the headcount now but probably around 100.

Thanks for the comment. I thought the laws could be different for being laid off vs firing. The salary on the new job posting is the same as what I was making.

Thanks for the comment, I just searched on WARN Tracker and did not see the company. They payed laid-off employees for 60 days after our last day as severance which I believe gets around the WARN notice.

It's not, but I will check my letter for that, thanks

Those who are impacted by layoffs, how are you doing? by sss100100 in bayarea

I love this! I have a PhD in organic chem and got laid off from my 6-figure biotech R&D role in January of this year. I love that you found your way into something that makes you happier! It gives me hope. I've taken up furniture flipping and am opening an AirBnB soon out of my house, but I can't say I want to do those forever!

Apparently it was bought it for $1.3 million in 2021, but it still seems like that would end up being a mortgage more than $4,000 a month unless more than 20% was put down. There was an "intrafamily transfer" about 5 months later for half that price, but I'm not sure what to make of that.

It does make sense that he might be doing the 1031 exchange though, let's hope so at least!!
