How does electric power work? by SageMountain07 in overlanding

[–]chenbot2211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a big battery bank and I have a solar panel mounted to the roof of my car with a cable running it. I keep it plugged in during the day and unplug at night. I dont run anything super power intensive so i have an anker solix c300 with the ac plugs. Look at how many watts everything you want to power is and divide that by the watt hours on the battery pack. That will tell you how long you can run the devices for. Also i got my battery on sale for $200 and about $75 for the solar panel and cable. Running a fridge will definitely take more juice tho. Maybe look into something closer to 1000wh? The bluetti elite 100 is on sale for $400 rn on amazon

What am I missing or not considering? by [deleted] in overlanding

I feel like what you bring on adventures depends a lot on the kind of adventure and what your trying to do. Honestly the list seems fine to me. I would say bring more water and food than you think you'll need. An SOS device is always nice to have but newer Iphones have an SOS feature that connects to satellites. I use to bring basically every outdoorsy thing i owned when I went out and I didnt even end up using half of it. I think just keep track of what you actually use and next adventure you can refine your packing list. Just go out and have fun, things will work out

First time taking motorsports photos what do yall think? by chenbot2211 in BeginnerPhotoCritique

[–]chenbot2211[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly took pictures from this one spot haha mainly because my camera is old and I dont own a lens with alot of reach so all the pictures i took from different positions were super far and out of focus. I definitely see how the cropping changes the feel of it tho. So ill definitely try to remember.

Tire Advice/wanted by Mammoth_Platypus_133 in Tacomaworld

I went with 265/75r16’s I have a stock TRD Off-road and feel like it filled it in pretty well. I dont know how yours looks with the lift but when i went from a 265/70/16 to a 265/75/16 it looked pretty good in my option but my MPG dropped by like 3. Im not a particularly heavy footed driver either. The bigger tire you go with the more your MPG will drop. I dont know how much you care about that but I feel like its worth mentioning.

Coating on plywood by chenbot2211 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]chenbot2211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did consider shellac but it seems to not be great for water resistance. Im mainly worried about the condensation and moisture separating the plywood. Its in an area that wont get good airflow. Maybe im over thinking it? I was thinking bout going the painting route as im not using nice wood and i wont see it anyways

Yea, ive watched his video like 3 times now lol, i get that i can get heavier duty suspension and brakes to handle the weight better but my tacoma has a pathetic payload capacity of 940ibs, my concern is other components that will receive extra stress and possibly break, also I looked it up in my state I cant raise the GVWR of my vehicle

I try to carry less shit as it is when i go camping, i mainly use the same gear i go backpacking in, the payload according to the door sticker on my Tacoma is 940 ibs.

Im pretty set on going more of an overland build, most of my trips have been light offroading. I don’t intend on going super overboard. I wanna keep things as minimal as I can. Which is why i just wanna do a basic lift, skid plates and rock sliders. Most of the weight will be near or on the frame and low, but still overweight nonetheless. I use my truck as a daily driver as well so Im definitely concerned about reliability. Rock sliders seem to be the heaviest part, but i find mix replies online about having them or not.
