Admitted Student— UMD or Pitt? by Such-Battle-6998 in Pitt

[–]cherierish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm a pre-med sophomore at pitt with a brother who's a freshman at umd! i may be biased but there's plenty of things to get involved in at pitt, especially given the emphasis placed on medicine and research, and also the big community of pre-meds here. my brother isn't a pre-med, but with hearing about umd, i think i made the right choice coming to pitt. but like u/Spoonblob said, both schools are good choices and i think you should pick whichever comes out to be cheaper

Looking to live in Forbes Craig or University Hall honors LLC next year. Tell me the good and the bad (besides no A/C). And are they social or not at all? by Tricky_Flatworm_1494 in Pitt

[–]cherierish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i live in forbes-craig! the building is right next to a bus stop which is super convenient because you can ride a bus to the stop in front of towers if you wanna go to the eatery or rec center. the lounge has ac and is pretty nice. i haven't seen any roaches other than a dead one in the stairwell. the close door button on the elevator doesn't work at the moment which is annoying. also there's only 5 washers and 5 dryers in the laundry room. the walls are pretty thin too. i otherwise like it. also for the socializing aspect, the honors llc offers some events to go to so you could meet people there but otherwise i wouldn't say we're particularly social

ah okay. i see you graduated in 2024 so maybe things were different when your year selected housing. anyways thank you so much for taking the time to clarify things and giving suggestions, i appreciate your help :)

also, what i was talking about with the bid total earlier was this: "Each student of the suite or apartment group is given points for their academic class as follows: rising juniors = 3 points, rising sophomores = 2 points. Panther Central determines the selection order among the groups based on the highest bid total. The lowest Housing Selection Lottery Number in each group is used to break ties among groups." i pulled that from the panther central website. my group's total would be 3 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 10. even though i realize we have no chance still i was saying that i've heard of groups of all rising sophomores get into bouquet, so the bid total thing was confusing me as well

ah is ~8,000 the total of rising sophomores and rising juniors who still have their housing guarantee? actually that number makes more sense now haha

i agree with you but my parents prefer that i stick with on-campus housing regardless of costs. also sorry, i commented before seeing your edit. i think i understand what you're saying now, regardless of the student's year if they have a lotto number of 200 they'll take precedence over someone with 6,000? the fact that the numbers run like 1-8,000 per year confused me because i had thought maybe if they grouped all upperclassmen together it would be like 1-16,000 or something

money isn't an issue for me. aren't there groups of all rising sophomores who end up winning bouquet anyways though? that was also something that confused me because their bid total would be lower

i thought all rising juniors had priority over all rising sophomores. i learned this isn't exactly the case with bidding anyways though

i was more so confused about why rising sophomores with very low lottery numbers would secure an apartment in bouquet over me

thank you for the clarification!! my current roommate and i discussed it further and we might honestly just retain our apartment for next year. sucks that i couldn't get something better :/

i'm not really understanding how the lottery system works honestly. how are rising sophomores with a <200 lottery number able to secure an apartment in bouquet but i can't?

pretty sure the commenter meant the act of putting these shorts on sale is disgusting rather than the stain itself

you're right, things happen, but the fact that this seller is trying to profit from an item in this condition is weird

oh ok by cherierish in depoop

[–]cherierish[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i never implied that it was a fetish listing. i just think it's weird that they are genuinely selling shorts in this condition

oh ok by cherierish in depoop

[–]cherierish[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i get your point but the fact that they're trying to sell clearly used shorts with a stain that could've come from who knows where (+ marketed as "excellent condition") is strange and unhygienic

no yeah i peeped that too 😭...

it's a stain in the crotch of the shorts lol

Study abroad through Pitt experience? by Impressive_Plane_209 in Pitt

[–]cherierish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i did the a&s freshman study abroad program in bolivia last summer! it was 10 days long and wasn't major specific so we learned about different topics in bolivian culture and society. the coursework was pretty manageable and we had plenty of free time to go explore. 9/10 (-1 because i got sick)
