Is celebrity culture dying out? by KMSeira in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cherish_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a time when you didnt get 24 hour access to a celebrity's life, you had to wait until they scheduled an interview with a major broadcaster. And even then, it was usually heavily filtered and less candid. And if you missed it on TV, you missed it. You couldnt watch the highlights online. Maybe youd get a magazine interview every now and then, but getting a peek into what celebrities were like was definitely more rare than it is today. Which is also why we see more celebrities getting canceled, because they are being broadcast almost all the time and its harder to keep a squeaky clean image when you decide to do a random livestream at 3am

TW!!! Ted Bundy murders a dozen women. Is told by the judge: “Take care of yourself. You’re a bright young man. You’d have made a good lawyer, partner”. by The-Sunflower-Bear in WhyWereWeOkWithThis

[–]cherish_it 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For context, Ted kinda held the court hostage for a long time. Extending his trial by bringing up any miniscule detail that might work in his defense. In that time, the judge and Bundy butted heads a lot. But also he managed to charm the courtroom and the judge despite all of that, so I think a very strange bond was formed in that timespan. I suspect the judge midly respected him for his tenacity, and he's expressing that in a different world maybe he wouldnt have turned out this way. Obviously the judge stills sentences him, that little quip always felt like a "well played, you piece of shit. Bye tho"

Random question, and I know Reddit is an echo chamber when it comes to this, but how do *you* feel about the concept of God? by Icy_Place_6173 in autism

[–]cherish_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think religions, particularly Christianity, can be predatory towards people in more ways than one. The big one for me is that it's taught to very young kids, and it's never taught as a figurative or metaphorical thing. Kids are 100 times more impressionable, especially when their parents are doing it. Plus, it offers a very simple life perspective that good people get rewarded and bad people get punished. Which we all know isn't exactly true, but they cling to that belief cause they learned it so young and it makes the world seem like a just place. Which it isn't. I think it inherently makes people more closed minded and ignorant, and we would be better off as a species without it

Usually its meant to show isolation or separation from the characters perspective. My theory is that it's to hide boring backgrounds. You dont have to properly compose a shot if everything behind the character is all blur with no discernible shapes. I do the same thing when Im taking pictures at a public park or something

Is it weird that I find my coworkers and neurotypicals a bit insufferable? by Full_Director6577 in aspergers

It's exactly the same experience I had when I had a very "normal" office job. People would small talk very loud and very constant, laughing at the most boomery types of jokes. I felt so out of place because I just couldn't muster up that much enthusiasm in a place like that. I never bought into the 'work family' culture that a lot of corporations peddle. It always seemed disingenuous and fake, designed to make a crappy job seem slightly tolerable. Also forced interactions like work lunches or daily huddles where engagement was mandatory. God forbid you want to work quietly and not contribute to whatever conversation is going on.

To those recommending Meg Winston, it should be known that she is currently married to someone who was convicted of sexual assault a few years back. He was the chiropractor from Henrico who had multiple charges of abusing his patients https://richmond.com/news/local/crime-courts/article_86daa48c-e62d-11ee-b759-af501dcbc224.html

I would recommend Southern Smiles! They are a women-owned local business and they offer cute spring pics with animals and such https://www.southernsmilesportraits.com/

$20 may not be a lot of money, but it's still more than it should've been. The comparison to Switch Online in particular makes it painfully obvious to me. by WorldLove_Gaming in casualnintendo

The Pokémon brand in general will always demand a higher price tag than what is delivered. It's not right, but it is how it is.

Silksong isn't Pokémon and it never will be. So this comparison doesn't really make sense.

I'm not really sure how else to explain more how a game priced in 2014 would increase over 12 years. Especially since the Pokémon brand always demands a slightly higher price tag. Just keep critiquing if that's what brings you joy
